With Hugh Jackman Leaving Who Could Be Up Next?

Disclaimer: The list will vary in age, and some guys are virtual unknowns. There is also some popular picks, but Tom Hardy won't be listed because he is a consensus pick like Emily Blunt is for Captain Marvel.  Enjoy or hate please leave your comments. Without further ado here is yet another list of actors who could play Wolverine.

Gerard Butler (45)

He’s a budding action film star and in the age range of the current Wolverine character. He has the ideal look, bulk, and acting chops to play Wolverine, but his age is bit concerning if they plan do something more with Wolverine outside of the Old Man Logan stuff. Butler is funny and his portrayal in Law Abiding Citizen was great.

Joel Edgerton (41)

Edgerton is a bit younger than Hugh Jackman, but still has the look to pull off a younger version of Wolverine. He’s a great actor in my eyes especially in Warrior where he played a heroic like protagonist to a lesser extent. The man can really act and he has some big performances including Great Gasby and Zero Dark Thirty under his built. Like everyone on the list he has the hard look, decent height, and fantastic build, but his age is a bit concerning. Can he pull of the voice?

Antony Starr (39)

Here is one of the unknowns I warned you about. He made the list strictly because of hius excellent work on Cinimax’s Banshee as Lucas Hood. Starr has the voice, the look, and the acting chops to nail Wolverine. I only question his ability to bulk up (not a major concern) and his box office ability. Will people be turned off by his unrecognizable face?

Clive Standen (34)

The rest of the list will comprise of people just like Starr and Staden. Staden plays the brother of the King on the History’s channel Vikings. His character Rollo went through a serious change from season to season. There is no question he has the bulk and look to pull off Wolverine. The question remains the same as it does with Star and the rest of the list, can he be a draw?

Liam McIntyre (33)

I know he’s attached to DC and Flash as the Weather Wizard, but I think an exception can be made. McIntyre has the look, skills, and bulk to play the role. He does a decent job acting and proved t as the lead on Spartacus. Unfortunately for him he played in a terrible rendition of Hercules, but everyone makes bad movies. Can Liam put on the voice?

Tyler Hoechlin (27)

Tyler is the second youngest on the list. What I really like about him is his portrayal as Derrick on Teen Wolf. He already plays intense character on the show. His voice is good enough to pull of a believable Wolverine accent. What he may lack his the ability to hold down the franchise.

Jack O'Connell (25)

O’Connell has a number of movies under his built. The former Skins star has really risen pass the great teen drama. He’s recently starred in Unbroken as a USA Olympian trapped on a raft for 47 days. He did very well and mix that into his 300 role I think he has all the tools. He’s 5’8 which is the perfect height to play Wolverine he has excellent build and he’s starred in a couple of major films. He’s 25-years old which is plenty young and has the intense look to pull off the character.

There you have it my list of guys that I think would do a pretty good job at replacing the legendary Hugh Jackman. Not that you care but... Personally I would go with a guy under 40 who could mesh with a younger cast and continue the Wolverine story into the future. I would use Wolverine in a number of ways including Spiderman and Hulk maximizing his story arch. Of course none of these guys compare to the fan favorite Tom Hardy, but since he’s busy with DC I figured I would leave him off the list. Thanks for reading or just skimming through the pics.
