The pre-race stunt will promote the upcoming motion picture Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and will be attended by all four of the film’s principal stars.
The one-of-a-kind event – which will be witnessed live by 180,000 racing fans as well as Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer stars Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis – will be part of the NASCAR special televised pre-race show on Fox Sports (5p.m. ET).
The stunt begins at 13,000 feet, as the 20 sky divers in flaming orange jumpsuits create a freefall formation of the numeral “4.” Then, the beloved comic book icon, the Silver Surfer, as enacted by world champion sky surfer Oliver Furrer, will surf the sky at 125 miles per hour, smoke trailing from his silver board, and break through the “4” formation.
A freefall video crew will capture all the action from this one-of-a-kind stunt. The video feed from two additional sky diving cameramen will be transmitted live on NextelVision JumboTrons at track and broadcast along with interviews with the film’s cast members, who are serving as honorary race officials. The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer cast also will be taking part in various activities around the track prior to the main event.
