Michael B. Jordan Talks More About Playing The Human Torch In THE FANTASTIC FOUR

Despite confirming that nothing is official as of yet, Chronicle star Michael B. Jordan's response in this video interview to being asked about possibly reteaming with Josh Trank for The Fantastic Four is more than enough to safely assume he WILL indeed play Johnny Storm!

You know, he was great in Chronicle...and if he does an awesome job as the Human Torch, then I say bring on an African American into the role. It'll probably be way better to be honest.

I just honestly hope it's slightly darker, not too much. More cosmic, and above all else, make sure you do connect this universe to the X-men's like you said FOX...because that could be sweet

As as well as DOFP...This FF reboot could help connect some dots if need be, patch some errors. I don't know how, but it would be cool

really cool.. love to see the comic movies change it up. Him and Sue can still easily be brother and sister so that's not a problem at all. Really hope this reboot works out all the kinks from the other 2 movies. Bring it on!

Imagine FOX actually started coming to agreements with Marvel about including each others characters in their Universes. Awkward moment where Human Torch from this franchise meets Cpt. America...

"Hey you know, I had a suit a lot like that once.."
OR
"Well I guess wearing blue, red and white is better than wearing one big blue spandex outfit..."

Cute gal beside him. I think its only safe to assume he has had talks about playing Johnny.Maybe he is the front runner.Trank may want him but at the end of the day it will be up to Vaugn,Millar and the studio heads to make such a bold call.

Interesting that aside from a little on Invisible Girl casting,we have got nothing on Reed and Ben or a possible villain (Doom,Mole Man) for that matter.

A little over three weeks till filming is rumored to start so something has to give.

Just a hunch, the FOX brass is gonna take this holiday weekend to do some soul searching and name the cast next Tuesday.

The only thing I hate that keeps popping up is the "He should be adopted" as if interacial dating doesn't exist...They could come from a mixed family or a black family or anything, I really hope they don't pull that adopted bull that keeps popping up

@Chloefornication

Batman black, yeah ok.Does anybody have anything constructive to contribute?

If it was up to me and FOX wanted to diversify the cast,I would have made Ben Grimm black. Michael Clark Duncan would have killed in the role. I could have seen him talking all kinds of smack on Yancy Street.

Also, Morris Chestnut as Lex Luthor!
A black Lex luthor, just like the one from the animated series, who's suave, sophisticated but also extremely intelligent and crazy as [frick], would be awesome!!!

First theres the just plain ugly gal from GIRLS who might be Sue now this dude?....wtf!!
All kinds of wrong...i really wanted this film to rock, but im already filled with fear over it.
As for the "He should be adopted" it will have to be the case seeing as hes clearly Black and not exactly mixed race.
Massively disappointing news..:(

Black Panther and Luke Cage NEED to be black, since they represent their ethnicities and the specific conditions around them.
Johnny Storm does NOT NEED TO BE CAUCASIAN. He isn't defined by his race. His sexuality maybe (he's a playboy and a hit with the ladies), but not his race. Change his ethnicity. Keep it fresh. The people who love it will love it, and the people who don't, don't matter in the first place.

Well unfortunately Michael Clark Duncan passed away so he's out. In the long run it won't matter who plays who if the movie is good. I just think we should be careful when changing characters that have existed for 50 plus years. The same people who say they are completely cool with characters changing races would flip if superman became black or the black panther became Asian or something. Johnny Storm is white. He still is right now in the comics. It's not like superior spider-man cause spider-man can be any color, but Peter Parker cannot. Batman could technically be black- but not Bruce Wayne. He'd be a different batman.

My point- the human torch could be black, Jewish, Hispanic whatever. But Johnny Storm is white. Therefore he shouldn't be Johnny and that changes a lot of things.

This will be shit nothing to do with the casting just that its FoX, My expectations for DoFP and the Wolverine are pretty low too.

The Storm family was never a huge part of the backstory in Fantastic Four anyway.

There is no image like the Kents, the Waynes or Aunt May burned into pop culture regarding the family history of Sue and Johnny.

There is no reason Johnny and Sue could be from a blended family.

Getting divorced, being widowed and Interracial relationships are mainstream today which is something I, as a black man married to a white woman for 22 years can tell you is light years from what it used to be.

Hell, the Brady Bunch T.V. show dealt with the issue of blended families 40 years ago.

As long as they get the relationship right I'm on board. Have the parents be dead from a drunk driver or plane crash and have Sue (a least 5 years older the Johnny) assume a more motherly type of relationship with Johnny verses the naggy sister role she had in the Tim Story films.

And ease up with the "all these racist" comments. Just because someone might be bothered by changing the race of a character that has existed for over half a century does not make them a racist. I guess if they got bothered by say, changing professor x to a woman would be sexist. It's not important or relevant that he's a man right?

If you're not in love with this casting choice you obviously don't like black people?! How could you possibly assume that?!
MightyZeus
MightyZeus - 5/22/2013, 3:44 AM
No.
I mean i'd understand if Susan Storm was black too but why cast Johnny Storm black and his sister Caucasion?
Why not cast 'The Thing' or Ben Grimm black?
NitPicker

What a surprise. The majority of people on this site don't care about the casting. I bet the majority of the people who don't care haven't even been in the same room as a comic book. This is why there are so many shitty comic book movies, too many people willing to accept dumb shit like this.

You people crack me up. If you disagree with changing a characters race you're racist?! What a ridiculous, unintelligent, an infuriating thing to say! And I've watched people on this website down movies like X-men origins: Wolverine and Spider-Man 3 for changing origins but now it's ok to do so? Make up your minds. As far as the "racist" or "you don't like black people" comments- I wish I was there for you to say that to my face.

What if... QS and SW were in it AS MUTANTS AND AS MAGNETO'S KIDS?!? What if this is the first bridge between Fox and Marvel? Imagine them mentioning Magneto in A2 - good for Fox as free advertising in a 1.5+ billion dollar movie (plus royalties on the names bring screened) and Marvel fanboys (it's a compliment, I'm a purebred) kept sweet by this huge ester egg, there is nobody who wouldn't benefit from it. Loadsa return

What if... Someday studios paired up characters/franchises like how music artists collaborate?
I know it's always been, for most of us, a case of rolling our eyes when reading some newb on here taking about 'having spider-man /wolverine in the Avengers" and their total lack of knowledge re studio ownership rights/licensing, but what if we lived in a world where it is that simple for it to happen?

I know the main issue is %'s and screen time but someone has to be the 'featuring' role at any given time but the favour is returned. Hugh Jackman showing up in the Avengers. Imagine it.
Freddy and Jason did it. Aliens vs Predators. Shame Robocop vs Terminator was just a video game.

Picture them slowly introducing characters, SW & QS in A2 then cameoing in an end of film battle sequence in x-men 4(5?). RDJ getting $30 million for a 2 week shoot to pop up in there. Spider-Man cameo in A3. None of this is totally out of the realm of being a possible reality we live in. I foresee FF and X-Men tie ins between fox/sony.

What if it led to a world where Thanos went from Avengers cameo to GOTG, from GOTG to A2, from A2 to Infinite Gaunlet involving every character from From Fox, Sony & Marvel?

Take a step further into this future. A world we never imagined may come true. We knew is should, but never quite believed it possible. A future that has been building since Blade in '98 (nice try 1996's Generation X....) and catalysed by X-Men 1 and Spider-Man 1.
After loving all things Marvel related for 30 years (I'm 31) this is a magical time to live.
Geeks inherit the world.

Marvel vs Dc cinematic universe, anyone....?

Okay listen people. Let's say you're Josh Trank. This is your SECOND movie. You enjoyed the process of working with an actor on your last film (Jordan). You begin casting and realize he fits the role perfectly on all but one category, his race. Should that stop you from casting him? Johnny Storm doesn't demand being white in background. And he is NOT as Important as let's say batman and superman because everyone recognizes them.

A British actor is playing superman. Where's the hate on that.

And besides most of you dont care about this casting. You hate this movie from the get go as Marvel Studios doesn't have it.
GetsugaTensho22

It DOES make you racist if your reasoning for being opposed to the race change is racist, simple.
You can't say "it doesn't make me racist". Being upset and thinking his race being different from what you've seen on paper will somehow diminish his qualities as an actor portraying a role, and that white man would have made the role better for you, is racist. Simple as that.
