I'm happy Catching Fire will dethrone the mediocrity of IM3

^^Catching Fire is a repeat of Hunger Game...mediocre.

Catching Fire was fantastic. Wiped away the sludge Iron Man 3 left. Thank god it looks to surpass it domestically.

Gravity is like Children of Men. Average acted, bland thriller. Great score and pretty good visuals don't make up for everything else. I admire the attempt but, Cuaron fails. This is an opinion but, here comes people attacking this comment in 3...2....1...

@Façade: Catching Fire is fantastic. The Hunger Games lacked in character development, thrills, emotion, chemistry, everything. Catching Fire took all my problems with the first one and threw them in the trash. They even got the tone right.

Edgy nailed it. I absolutely hated the first Hunger Games, but they blew me away with Catching Fire.

@MrFridayNight: I wouldn't go that far

But Edgy you failed in your analysis of Cuaron. Though Gravity was simply good to me, Children of Men is one the best films ever made.

Prisoners is the best film of the year IMO. Everyone seems to overlook it. Smh
thewonderer
thewonderer - 1/6/2014, 2:06 PM
Prisoners was good but its a poor mans Zodiac.

I liked the film but it really really drags at times. I think I could have done without seeing Paul Dano tortured the 11th time they showed it.

Then there's that bait and switch ending. A cliffhanger that really has no reason other than to make it seem more clever than the audience.

@thewonderer: I disagree. I thought the film was very engrossing, especially emotionally. I don't mind the cliffhanger and as far as being a poor mans Zodiac (one of my five all time favorite films), I think it doesn't simply because Prisoners is about what we are capable of when we are pushed to our limit and I think it's by far the most interesting part about the movie and I think seeing all those scenes with Paul Dano being tortured really showed it. Does it drag? Partly.

If Jennifer Lawrence doesn't get a nomination for Catching Fire as Best Actress, I'll be really pissed.

Catching Fire was an awesome film as a whole as well.

Desolation of Smaug looks as boring as the first.

Cuarón is a genius.

Gravity a masterpiece.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Isn't it funny that the two Hunger Games movies had better character development, more mature themes, better balance between humor and seriousness moments than any Marvel Studios fim?

Ouch!

I hope I didn't hurt anyones feelings.

Hunger Games doesn't target an older audience than any Marvel movie.
NovaCorpsFan

Gravity will probably sell tonnes on DVD because people will be like, "Oh I heard this was incredible!" Then they'll watch it and be underwhelmed. It's one of those movies that needs a cinema screen and a theatre to really enjoy and get the most out of it.
RichardBoldly
RichardBoldly - 1/6/2014, 2:44 PM
@NovaCorpsFan

Is it at least less boring as the first?

Cuz I heard some bad things about it, so I'm a little skeptical.

I'll give you that The Hunger Games is more serious however it's still a teen flick that has some adult viewers. Marvel is a family film yet attracts more adult viewers.

@Question

I don't know if you know but here in Brazil where I live, there were some protests against the poloticians and all.

So this film can be very important to help the young people get out of their confort zone and claim their rights.

Here by me, Hunger Games is a teen girl fad whilst Marvel is viewed more by adults.
Pedrito

Wow. Lots of people are jumping on the Catching Fire bandwagon around here.
It was a decent movie aimed anyone from early teens to old pervs. Better than the first, who was total crap (at least for people who have seen Battle Royale).
Anyway, 2014 will be a better year for blockbuster movies.

Don't get all giddy, anti-Marvelites...

Gravity has surpassed MOS in worldwide BO, but not in the domestic BO, tho it soon may.

Hunger Games may pass IM3 in domestic BO, but it's foreign is at half of what IM3 took.

Frozen has passed MOS in both foreign and domestic BO.

Just to clarify it a little... and after Gravity and Smaug close, I suspect MOS will be #7... hell, Thor:TDW only has $38M to go to pass MOS in the worldwide BO, so it could drop to #8 when it's all said and done.

If any of that really matters to you, you're sad. 3 CBMs in the top 12, maybe top 10, if you aint happy about that, you're not a comic book fan.

AGoodHonestMan - 1/6/2014, 2:54 PM
Is that domestic earnings? Because last time I check Catching Fire is not even close to a billion. I told everyone that Frozen will dominate when its released overseas and yeah, Gravity is awesome! Sorry MoS...
RichardBoldly
RichardBoldly - 1/6/2014, 2:54 PM
@Question

It's funny you say that cuz I didn't see ANY person under 16 years watching the movie in the theater.

In The Moralists's session however....

Lots of kids. And none of the people who watched The Moralists kept speaking about the movie. They just watched the with their brain off.

But yeah, you're right. Hunger Games is the ONE that is totally a teen flick. ;)
RichardBoldly
RichardBoldly - 1/6/2014, 3:00 PM
And yes.

I do need more than a Dragon.

I also found out that Peter Jackson invented some lame ass triangle love story between that elf chick, a dwarf and some Legolas.

I don't remember Catching Fire having that problem....

;)

Thematically speaking, in terms of social and political commentaries on contemporary society, there's alot more to chew on in Hunger games than a fire breathing guy pearce
