FOX 2000 is currently getting the ball rolling on the sequel to last years 'Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief'. The sequel might start shooting as soon as next summer. The studio has apparently signed on Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (1408) to take the second novel and turn it into a script. Currently the word is that Chris Columbus is not going to direct this movie but will stay on as producer.

Logan Lerman is currently set to return to the role of Percy Jackson and word it that the rest of the cast will soon follow his lead and join.

I think this film could be fun, I've never read the books, but the plot sounds pretty interesting, and even though most people hated the first 'Percy Jackson' movie, I enjoyed it, it wasn't jam packed full of hard-core action and depth, but it was a fun movie. It wasn't made to be an Oscar winner, I think it was made as a fun movie for people to just sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Here's the synopsis for 'Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Sea of Monsters':
"Percy Jackson’s seventh-grade year has been surprisingly quiet. Not a single monster has set foot on his New York prep-school campus. But when an innocent game of dodgeball among Percy and his classmates turns into a death match against an ugly gang of cannibal giants, things get… well, ugly. And the unexpected arrival of Percy’s friend Annabeth brings more bad news: the magical borders that protect Camp Half-Blood have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and unless a cure is found, the only safe haven for demigods will be destroyed.

In this fresh, funny, and hugely anticipated follow up to The Lightning Thief, Percy and his friends must journey into the Sea of Monsters to save their beloved camp. But first, Percy will discover a stunning new secret about his family — one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon’s son is an honor or simply a cruel joke."

the first book is so much better then the first movie, they skipped over a epic fight between percy jackson and ares for what reason I have no idea but hopefully this works out well

I hated what they did with the first one. THEY CHANGED EVERYTHING.

yeah, Usually I don't have problem with changing stuff around if it makes the movie better but it didn't really make it any better should have stuck close to the source material a bit more. Hope fully the 2nd one improves has potential to be massive franchise.

stick with the real [frick]ing story from the books for the movies and it will be better.
(although honestly Sea of Monsters is the weakest of the series)

that is why things like Harry Potter and LOTR did and are doing well, for the most part they followed the books rather closely.

i don't understand the massive changes these studios have to make to book to film adaptations. if they thought a certain book or series would make a good transition to film, why change it?

the template and storyboarding is already done with these types of movies.

The first one was as forgettable as the Narnias.

Bring Kratos (someone known the name was an anagram of Arktos, the son of Zeus and Callisto?), he's the true mythological greek hero.

They ruined the first one so why should they even get a chance to make the next. They didnt even reveal the TRUE villian at the end of the movie. This movie should have gone to Disney to make, not Fox! They should just make each book into a 3 part miniseries. That way they can get as much detail as they can from the books.

The first was a blast, not exactly amazing but it was a fun filled movie directed a younger kids. It was decent enough to warrant a sequel were hopefully the story and cast can build on the story a bit more. Oh and staying closer to the source material may help aswell.

i thought the first was good really, it was fun and you didn't have to think about it... it was for younger kids but it was still a fun movie so i won't mind some sequels...

i actually liked the 1st one as a movie. had i not read the books it would have been more enjoyable.

i am complaining about all the changes they made from the book. dropping some of the more entertaining characters completely, for instance Ares. Ares is straight up badass and has a pretty awesome throw down with Percy at the end of the book.

it also doesn't even mention who the main villain ends up being which sets up the remaining books in the series.

also with the beginning at the camp, it doesn't explain how your God or Goddess parentage is determined or the living situations. the movie just made it seem like Poseidon made Percy some totally [female dog]in pad in the middle of the camp and it has just been waiting for Percy to show up.

too many plot holes not brought up, too many characters dropped, and not enough of the book made it to the screen.

do the sequel but follow the book more closely

As long as this is as good as the book, then I'm in.

Percy Jackson? What the hell is that, the watered-down American Harry Potter?

[frick] FOX for changing this movie too much too!

Damn, really hoping they stay close to the book for this one!

Btw...keep Alexandra Daddario, she's not blonde yes, but she's damn hot!

YES! I LOVE the books! So glad they're making a sequel, hopefully to set things right.

I saw the first movie before reading the books, so i can (almost) still enjoy it.

@ exiles: I was SOOOOOO pissed that they took out the whole Ares plot!
Hopefully he'll be in this one, although its not nearly as important now. But I say jeffrey dean morgan for Ares if they do.

@ Aztlan:
actually Kratos is the son of pallas and styx. He is strength and power personified in real greek mythology.

@ jedi:

actually kind of... imagine harry potter if it dealt with Greek Mythology instead of witches and wizards.

I like the books, and I liked the first movie. I'd been hoping they'd continue it and not drop it.

I dunno if anyone else mentioned, but Percy was in the 6th grade in the first book, Logan Lerman is NOT 11 years old...I know the synopsis above is probably based on the book..but if that IS Fox's synopsis, how in the world is Lerman a 7TH GRADER?? Oh well, I still liked the first one a lot. Looking forward to this one!
