Eddie Redmayne In Talks To Star In FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM

There was talk that the lead role in Warner Bros' Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them was Eddie Redmayne's to lose. Now it seems he's officially in talks to star in the Harry Potter spin-off!

Last year, rising star Eddie Redmayne stunned audiences and critics alike with his powerful portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything, earning himself an Academy Award in the process. It's no wonder then, that Warner Bros. and director David Yates were so keen on securing the talented young thespian's services for the eagerly anticipated Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beats And Where To Find Them.

In early April, Variety reported that the film's lead role of "magiczoologist" Newt Scamander was Redmayne's to lose, and they've since followed-up on these rumors by claiming the actor has now officially begun talks with WB for the part. Inside sources have said that the actor was sent a copy of J.K. Rowling's first script treatment, and is "very happy with what he has read." Variety also claimed that Yates and the studio planned on meeting contenders for the two female leads next week.

What do you think of this news? Redmayne missed out on playing Star-Lord last year, but has expressed a continued interest in starring in a CBM at some point. Would you rather see him join up with one of the DC or Marvel Cinematic Universes - or are you happy to see him enter the wizarding world? Leave your thoughts below!

Can you imagine how odd Redmayne as Star Lord would have been? I mean he's a great actor, but just seems so wrong for that role.

:P Eh, I never used to understand this complaint. As a geek I'm interested in all CBMs, Sci-Fi, Fantasy etc. Obviously most of the news on this site should be about CBMs (and it is), but it never hurts to report on some of the bigger news from closely related genres.

@TheMarvelite

I think I read it years ago. As I recall it was just an in-universe text book on magical creatures, so I'm not sure how they intend to make a movie out of it.

If I remember correctly this series is about a New Yorker, was I wrong? Because I remember hearing this would be the first Potter Universe series outside of Europe. So why use an English actor? Was no American actors available?

As long as he doesn't do that stupid Jupiter Ascending voice he will be fine in the role.

I am not really a fan of this dude. I just don't like his face for some reason. I am sure many people would think his is a better looking face than my own, but I still don't like his. Maybe he would be playing a character that would require face make-up so he wouldn't look like himself.

@minty I hear you... to a point. Do these articles HAVE To be specifically a cbm? No...ish, but you are right, it should tie into one somehow, and to be honest I don't see any correlation between a Harry potter spinoff RUMOUR and a cbm.

Obviously you brought up marvel and DC in the end, but let's be honest... it was only put there so this article has a tie-in to cbm's not because of the article content (Harry potter rumour).

You seem like a good guy so I'm only busting your balls, but I will tell you something that really 'grinds my gears', and that's when articles are created to seem organic but are just studio paid garbage - "check out the latest images from this movie we know sucks but we gotta say that we're excited for it".

Peter griffin level of gear grinding going on when that happens lol

He would have made a terrible star lord. Not saying he's a bad actor but that's like fitting a square peg in a round hole

He would be great as Riddler.

@Pending

Not a shared universe, it's a prequel to HP movies.
