Eddie Redmayne In Talks To Star In FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM
There was talk that the lead role in Warner Bros' Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them was Eddie Redmayne's to lose. Now it seems he's officially in talks to star in the Harry Potter spin-off!
Last year, rising star Eddie Redmayne stunned audiences and critics alike with his powerful portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything, earning himself an Academy Award in the process. It's no wonder then, that Warner Bros. and director David Yates were so keen on securing the talented young thespian's services for the eagerly anticipated Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beats And Where To Find Them.
In early April, Variety reported that the film's lead role of "magiczoologist" Newt Scamander was Redmayne's to lose, and they've since followed-up on these rumors by claiming the actor has now officially begun talks with WB for the part. Inside sources have said that the actor was sent a copy of J.K. Rowling's first script treatment, and is "very happy with what he has read." Variety also claimed that Yates and the studio planned on meeting contenders for the two female leads next week.
What do you think of this news? Redmayne missed out on playing Star-Lord last year, but has expressed a continued interest in starring in a CBM at some point. Would you rather see him join up with one of the DC or Marvel Cinematic Universes - or are you happy to see him enter the wizarding world? Leave your thoughts below!
