JOHN WICK Writer Derek Kolstad Tapped To Develop Live-Action DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Series

It looks like Hasbro and eOne are doubling down on Dungeons & Dragons, as in addition to a live-action film starring Chris Pine, they're also in the early stages of developing a live-action TV series.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Paramount & Hasbro-backed eOne have enlisted Derek Kolstad (John Wick; The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) to write and develop a live-action Dungeons & Dragons television series

The studio is currently working on a variety of other projects with multiple different writers which are also set in the larger D&D universe, including a live-action Dungeons & Dragons movie, which is expected to begin production at the tail-end of this year and will star Primetime Emmy-nominee Chris Pine (Star Trek Beyond; Wonder Woman) in the lead role.

While plot details are anyone's guess, the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game is about storytelling in worlds of sword and sorcery. It shares elements with childhood games of make-believe. Like those games, D&D is driven by imagination. It’s about picturing the towering castle beneath the stormy night sky and imagining how a fantasy adventurer might react to the challenges that scene presents.

Kolstad is, of course, best known as the mastermind behind the John Wick franchise and also wrote the upcoming action crime drama Nobody starring 3x Golden Globe-nominee Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul; Breaking Bad). He's also one of the writers behind Marvel's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and is in the process of developing the John Wick spinoff series The Continental as well as a Hitman show.

I always have trouble getting into high fantasy stuff but I feel like if I was ever able to I’d be obsessed like I am with Star Wars. Might give this a shot if it goes well

I've been feeling bad for Paramount in recent years They haven't been able to start a new, interesting franchise in a while. And to think they originally had the MCU.

@Feralwookiee - I wonder if the means Justice League is earlier in the month, some might not be that excited for Godzilla but that’s one hell of a month for the service IMO

@Feralwookiee - yeah its been crazy we have yet to have a trailer. Hopefully now it will be on its way. Cause I have a feeling that out of the core fanbase, people forgot it existed

@Ha1frican - Obviously this means Godzilla vs. Kong is farther along than we thought (if not complete). We can't necessarily presume to know how complete Justice League is.

I really hope they can turn Dungeons and Dragons into a big successful franchise. I hope they don’t do any of the people falling into the game Jumanji like bullshit. Just a movie and series based in a Dungeons and Dragons fantasy world. It can have humor like an Avengers movie but I still hope it takes itself seriously.
