The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Thing like 'movie of the year'...meh don't be ignorant. It is overhyped and all what I have seen so far is very boring. Then people say stuff like the Dark Knight Rises trailers are so dull and boring blabla...well if you compare that with this movie...this one tops it. But it may be a very good film. I will definately check it out. It is just definately not interesting right now...looks more like a dances with wolves or drama movie poster and stuff.

I'm just irritated by everyone saying stuff like TDKR best movie ever and Hobbit is the most epic...blabla. Yeah all are epic but let's leave it open.

Peter Jackson stays extremely close to the books so people saying that this is going to be movie of the year have most likely read the book which is verrrrry good.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 Yeah I understand that, but people say like it's just that and nothing else. People have to stop with annoying eachother. It's so overhyped

@thetrojan I have failed to get through the first film. The story isn't really my "thing". But The Hobbit interest me. It'll be the only film in the franchise I'll see. Smaug!

@marvel72

I don't think so somehow. The hobbit is a great book, but it doesn't have the sweeping scale or epic stakes of the lord of the rings trilogy.

It's merely about a bunch of funny looking dwarfs who want their gold back from a dragon.

Thanks for the laugh. I guess you lose on that dare. I have watched the trilogy three or four times and have never fallen asleep in watching it.

Excellent poster!

"It's merely about a bunch of funny looking dwarfs who want their gold back from a dragon."

Wow...how some people just get that out of the book is beyond me. It is much more about the epic journey along the way than it is about the destination. One of the reasons I love the way they titled the film. It is the forging of friendships and setting the lore that prequels LOTR. All, which I find very epic. Different strokes.

Joker08 -

I thought the same thing when I saw the poster. That pic that you posted is one of the best paintings of Gandalf the Grey. John Howe painted it in the late 80s; unfortunately, it was stolen sometime in the late 90s while on display.

Here's the story on the theft:

Waiting for a MAN OF STEEL ComicCon poster.

It seems that it would come soon since the two Con Poster reveals so far have been Warner Bros. Properties.

But then again, In the ComiCon Saturday line up they didn't even have a description for the film. So they might be keeping the whole thing on lockdown in order to create more shock value.

@thetrojan

I realize that is just your opinion. But your crazy calling these movies rubbish with poorly exicuted special effects. I had my father watch all 3 of these movies and the entire time he thought gollum was a real (very skinny) actor with make-up. It's one thing to fool someone momentarily in a film with special effects, it's another to blur the the line of what's real and what isn't consistently for 3 consecutive films. These movie were far ahead of their time and the effects they achieved then still holdup to (if are not far better than) the effects we see today.

@Stormbreaker:

John Howe really is amazing - I never knew about the theft though. It's a shame to read about how the recovered pieces were treated. Thank you for the link to the story.
