Empire have debuted four new images from Peter Jackson's second Hobbit movie, giving us fresh looks at Bard, Gandalf, Bilbo and -- in a famous scene from the book -- Thorin and some of the other Dwarves escaping from Laketown in barrels.

The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.


The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug hits theaters in just two weeks.

Wait, I'm currently reading the book. I've just got to the part in which they arrive in Laketown. I thought that they used the barrels to escape the Wood-Elf Prison?

After being kinda let down by the first movie and being not convinced about the whole three movies deal in general I basically had two demands - do not [frick] up Smaug, and do not [frick] up Beorn!


Yeah, well, Smaug might still be pretty good. And, urm... Beorn's house looks nice!


Also these are bad promotional pictures for the movie - where are the elves?
