Super 8 Fails To Topple Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 At The UK Box Office!

Captain America: The First Avenger failed to beat the boy wizard last week, and now it's Super 8's turn to be dealt a crushing blow by the final ever Harry Potter movie! Hit the jump for details...

Once again holding off the competition, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 managed to beat new releases Super 8 and Mr Popper's Penguins at the UK box office this week, pushing Captain America: The First Avenger down to #4.

Pulling in an impressive £2.8 million, Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is now the most successful UK release of 2011, having grossed £62 million since being released. It's not all bad for the Marvel Studios superhero though. At nearly £1.5 million, Captain America held on to a place in the top 5, and every little helps in ensuring the movie makes enough to get a sequel!

With the release of Rise of the Planet of the Apes on Thursday (so far heavily promoted here) and Cowboys & Aliens next week, how much longer will Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 hold on to the top spot?

I saw Super 8 on Friday. Awesome movie, and well worth the extra two months we had to wait for it, lol.

I really want to see 'Super 8' and I'm pretty intrigued by 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' but seriously...I don't see why everyones surprised that Harry Potter is still on top.

I saw Super 8 a few days ago, enjoyed it, I saw Planet of the Monkeys last night, loved it. Oh, and I'll pass on the poll, bit silly really.

i watched Super 8 months ago in the US, why they still do staggered releases in different regions is beyond me, if people want to see it they'll be able to download it before its released in the other country.

I haven't seen Super 8 yet but I might go tomorrow. I'm disappointed Captain America got knocked down by to two spots: I was hoping it would only go down to third place. I think though since Captain America was made for 150 million it will make double its money back pretty easily.

I found Super 8 a bit of a letdown, and I keep forgetting to list it among the relatively few films I've seen this summer.

I usually like most of the stuff you write but come on. No once cares about the UK box office race. Especially with movies that have been out for weeks. Your falling off.

Yeah, Super 8 wasn't that impressive. Abrams hasn't learned anything from Star Trek, where he overused lend flairs. The same thing happens in Super 8. It comes off as distracting, particularly in a scene when the girl says her lines. Also, that damn kid with the braces got on my nerves. I'm pretty sure Abrams wanted him to show his teeth whenever he was on screen, which is something Abrams always does, take a small personality trait and over do it. Nolan took note of the criticisms for Batman Begins and tried not to repeat them in The Dark Knight. Abrams should learn to do the same thing.
