The Extended Lord Of The Rings Heading To Blu-ray Soon!

Expect The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Extended Editions from New Line to hit Blu-ray this year before The Hobbit movies are released...

This from the ever reliable Bill Hunt, the head of The Digital Bits:

Our sources are NOW telling us that WHV (and their now in-house New Line label) is ALSO planning to release Peter Jackson’s long-awaited The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Extended Editions on Blu-ray sometime this year. No kidding. We suspect that, now that The Hobbit films are finally about to begin filming, the studio is eager to get more product on store shelves to keep the franchise fresh in the minds of fans.

LEEE777 - Well I myself has only the regular DVD's so I'm buying these babies, just been waiting. How about you?

Best news of the year so far!!! The theatrical versions just don't hold water compared to this set of extended editions! I have them on DVD which look spectacular, but I am definitely upgrading to the Blu-Rays!

Well this is why I never bought the regular Blu-rays and only got the regular DVD'S so its worth it to me to get them...

But I get your points, I'm not buying the STAR WARS Blu-Rays as boughts VHS, then Laser Disc, then DVDS (of both trilogies) so I'm passing on them, but it is sad why these wasn't released with the regular LOTRS Blu-Rays...

I'm still waiting to buy a 3D copy of AVATAR not buying a normal Blu-Ray copy.

I refused to buy the Theatrical for a reason: extended Blu-Ray is the ONLY way to see this!

People not getting the extended versions of any movie are only letting themselves down lol. I can't watch these movies without them being the extended versions. Hell, I wish there were more films that had extended versions.

Great news LEEE777! I was wondering when we'd finally hear about this! I have them on DVD but what the heck... blu ray just looks so damn good! I haven't bought the standard theatrical one on blu ray so I'm fine with this purchase!

@ leee777

the benefit of having them on blu-ray is not having to get up & change the disc over just to see the second half of the film.

i've got them on blu-ray already,so i'll get the extended editions when they come out.

This is a great announcement. With Star Wars coming out and now this on BLU-Ray, it is just another reason to get a BLU-Ray player and LED tv. Now to get the wife to agree. LOL!

@Logan
What your talking about is the aspect ratio of the films. Clash was shot in 2.40:1, so its always going to have the black bars.

Pretty sure LOTR was also, so sorry for you.

Personally, I don't mind those. Films like Dark Knight really show the difference probably when you watch them on your T.V.

Is this going to be an extended version of the theater release or the DVD extended? Will probably buy it on blu-ray. I bought the Avatar with the extended opening and it still sucked. I like the LOTR.

Number, I'm assuming they are the same as the extended dvd ones we all got years ago. They are just now going to be released in blu ray format instead of dvd. Basically the same thing as the dvd ones, but blu ray lol. I can't wait to get these. Picture quality for the win!
