Entertainment Weekly have released a couple of new pics from Peter Jackson's second Hobbit movie, giving us fresh looks at two of the Elves that will be joining the story: Orlando Bloom as Legolas, and Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel.

The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.


The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug hits theaters this December.

How can you dislike Lilly? Look at that boat race..she's the reason cavemen painted on walls.

I really hated the CG in the first one. Not just the quality -surprising for Weta Workshop- but the design as well. I hated how lifeless, fake and one dimensional Azog felt compared to the Uruk Hai guys in the LOTR trilogy, and how ridiculous the Goblin King and the Wargs looked. The new Wargs had a stupid evil grin that reminded me of wile e coyote!

Tolkien nerd screams Hobbits and Orcs also have pointy ears!

Anyway... I'm hoping for Aragorn to pop up in a secret cameo. At this point, why not? The way they're promoting the second movie it feels like it's all about the wood elves and Thorin's party just happen to drop in.

Shame that fake materials for sets really look fake in the film.... Real locations/materials and well done VFX look stunning though.

It really bothers me that those damn elves get all this attention, while one of my favourite characters (who happens to actually BE an important part of the book) gets butchered visually and then mostly ignored in all the official promotion.

Don't put tons of shit in the story to make it three movies if you can't get the actual stuff from the book right. :(
