J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings is widely considered to be the greatest fantasy tale of all time, but for many, Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time saga would be part of the conversation.

We haven't seen a whole lot from Amazon Prime's upcoming adaptation, but it looks like the first trailer might be with us soon, as a brief promo featuring the first snippets of footage has now been shared online.

The teaser seemingly spotlights a fateful moment from the first novel, The Eye of the World, as Mat Cauthon foolishly takes a ruby-encrusted dagger from the cursed city of Shadar Logoth - a decision which ends up having dire consequences.

Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, Jack Reacher, Die Another Day) is set to lead the cast as Moiraine Damodred, alongside Madeleine Madden (Tidelands) as Egwene Al’Vere; Marcus Rutherford (Obey) as Perrin Aybara; Barney Harris (Clique) as Mat Cauthon; Zoë Robins (Power Rangers) as Nynaeve; and Josha Stradowski (Just Friends) as Rand Al’Thor.

Set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it, the story follows Moiraine, a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.

No premiere date for The Wheel of Time has been announced, but we'll keep you posted.

@Spidey91 - They can't, that logo has existed for decades (my copies of the novels all have it front and center in their covers), at this point it would be easy to dismiss any lawsuit as the resemblance is only vague.

Reaaly hope they do this justice. It’s a great series that deserves it. Just re-read it last year.

I read the first six books and loved them. Not read any of the rest but will one day. I’m not holding out much hope for this but I’ll give it a chance and see if I like it once it’s about.

This series has the POTENTIAL to be incredibly good, as the books were a fresh spin on several genres that are incredibly popular at the moment. The books are fantastic world-building with likable characters. I hope this show turns out well, because it's a great story.
