It seems Warner Bros. has some very big names in mind to lead their upcoming Willy Wonka reboot.

According to Collider, the shortlist of actors in line to play the eccentric chocolatier is led by Ezra Miller (Justice League), Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049) and Donald Glover (Solo: A Star Wars Story).

There's no indication if any of these guys are close to landing the role or not, but the report does mention that the movie is actually expected to be a prequel which will build towards the events of Roald Dahl's classic children's novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The new Willy Wonka film will be directed by Paddington helmer Paul King, with David Heyman (Harry Potter) producing and and screenwriter Simon Rich (Man Seeking Woman) on script duty.

I didn't know this was a thing... again.

Why mess with the classics? Gene Wilder's movie was perfect (and also a crass commercial for a fledgling candy company). There's no need to go to this well again.

@Spock0Clock - Agreed.

@Spock0Clock - Interesting. I always thought that the candy cane later. They really did use it as a commercial. I think that the movie would be barely remembered if not for Wilder’s performance. Depp’s Wonka was just weird, but not memorable

Another movie no one asked for.

Is a prequel to a musical just a bunch of people writing the songs and planning the choreography?

"And then I'll say 'doopity-doo' and you stand on your head and I'll catch your feet. Shut up, I promise to catch them when the kids are here, I swear...."

This movie is being made? Really?
Anyway, I could see Gosling as Wonka. And Gambino too.

Hey Warner Bros, you already tried rebooting Willy Wonka once with a giant budget, an A-list (at the time) actor, and a can’t fail director, and it didn’t work.

The Gene Wilder version is a classic. Stop.

@santoanderson - Actuuit made money for them whereas the first one was a box office flop. Who knew? Didn’t care for Depp’s Wonka.

This movie should not be made.

Don't want or need this at all. The original is perfect and the newest reboot sucked ( even though I really liked Depp as Wonka...or the idea of him in the role)

I'll complain and be upset, but this is going to happen so I will say...all three would be fantastic in the role. I actually would love to see Ezra nab it tbh.

@Menks123 - The first one was perfect even though it is weird and disturbing for a kids’ movie. You can thank Roald Dahl for that Opposite on the remake. I thought it was okay but did not like Depp’s Wonka. Oh well. Didn’t really need that movie let alone this prequel.

@RolandD - Yeah, agreed on all points there.

I liked the casting of Depp for the role, but they wrote him waaaay too eccentric and bizarre.

@Menks123 - Casting sounded good when I first heard about it.

Why remake movies which are pretty much perfect or well remembered and regarded? Especially if not a lot of time has passed since the original or a recent remake

Instead they should remake films that had a great concept but didn't quite work or maybe flopped because of time constraints when making them.
