GHOST RIDER: Nicolas Cage Reveals Whether He Would Be Open To Playing The Spirit Of Vengeance Again

After playing Johnny Blaze in two Ghost Rider movies, Nicolas Cage has once again expressed an interest in playing the Spirit of Vengeance again as rumours swirl the anti-hero will return on Disney+...

Nicolas Cage played Johnny Blaze in two critically panned Marvel movies: 2007's Ghost Rider and 2012 sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Both efforts had some redeeming qualities, though no one was exactly dying for a threequel after that last effort.

The legendary actor's quirky take on the character resonated with many fans and a recent rumour suggested there are plans in place for Cage to reprise the role "sooner than you think."

We'll see, but in a new interview with Uproxx, Cage talked openly about whether he'd be open to playing a character like Ghost Rider again at a point in his career when he's mulling over a move to television.

"Well, like I said, it’s going to be a very severe and stringent selection process. I’m not saying no entirely. I’m saying if something came along that I thought had some pop to it, some spark to it, that maybe could be fun for folks to revisit, like a Face/Off 2 or Ghost Rider, that’s another conversation. But I mean, that’s not going out and finding a brand new bit of material and trying something else. I’m still developing my ideas about all this. Who knows what will really happen?"

"But when we had that conversation back in 2012 or whenever it was, I never thought I would say this, what I’m saying now, that I’m ready to explore television. But probably because the TV wasn’t there yet. And also because I was a true blue film actor and I never thought I’d want to do anything else. But so many changes are happening in my industry."

"And there’s AI and these things. And also the internet mashups and the viral stuff that’s going on and how the performances are being received. There was a big article in The New Yorker today that came out by Isaac Butler - and he wasn’t necessarily wrong about what he said about how the internet can reduce people to a punchline, which was not what I signed up for when I decided to be a film actor."

There have been rumblings for a while now that Marvel Studios is developing a Ghost Ride TV show for Disney+, but if we had to hazard a guess, Cage will be among the actors who appear in next year's Deadpool 3

The movie is expected to take the Merc with the Mouth and Wolverine on a trip through the Multiverse, with both the original X-Men and Jennifer Garner's Elektra already all but confirmed to show up. Why not add Cage's Ghost Rider to the mix? Failing that, the next Avengers movies are another possibility.

We don't anticipate Cage playing Johnny on Earth-616 unless it's for a passing of the torch with Danny Ketch or Robbie Reyes. The latter already appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., while Danny played a role in Spirit of Vengeance, so Marvel Studios may choose to put a new spin on the original Ghost Rider.

Would you like to see Cage's Ghost Rider ride again?

Dude, Cage is still a big name in film. They should totally cast him and add him to the other stars in the MCU.

Secret Wars

I'm betting anyone who has ever appeared as a Marvel superhero on screen will be asked to be in this

@OrgasmicPotatoe - At minimum at least suggestions they are all there at some point in it even if some are far enough in the background with no dialogue it looks like they are all back without necessarily requiring all the actors or all having any lines.

@Apophis71 - That's what I'm thinking as well. Even if they can't get the actor, they might try and get the version of their character.

Garrett Morris' SNL Ant-Man is coming back, baby, and he won't be afraid to try the Thanus Protocol on his enemies !😎

@Apophis71 - probably dividing it up in various stages:

1. Full Fledged Live-Action appearance:
Actors willing to return for more than a cameo will be in this bracket. Probably reserved to some of the bigger and more fondly remembered names like Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellan, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart and Tobey Maguire.
But also cheaper actors with less of a large career can fall into this bracket given their way lower price-tag like Rebecca Romjin, Wesley Snipes, Shawn Ashmore, Ioan Gruffud or Jennifer Garner.

2. Live-Action/Voice Over Hybrid cameo:
This is where the big names who aren't fully commiting to returning will go. This is certainly reserved for big names with nigh unaffordable price-tags (RDJ, Evans). They'll have one/two scenes with their mask off and the rest will be a sole voice-over role recorded in a day. Think 2-3 days of work for 50Mil.

3. Voice Over appearance:
Where actors like Nic Cage, Eric Bana, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, Andrew Garfield, Michael Chicklis and Tom Hardy might fall under. For a day work as a voice-over role they'll get a nice paycheck while some poor sob will have to do mocap for all of them while making 10% of what they're making.

4. Legacy Likeness appearance:
Actors unable or unwilling to return will be here, they face obscured by a mask in a full CG role. Thinking Ben Affleck as Daredevil, Lou Ferrigno's Hulk and other expensive actors.

Cage could have been great as the Ghost Rider, it's too bad the directors and writers sucked.

Nicolas Cage is one for Hollywood books! He has run the full gamut from god-awful films to absolutely outstanding films, and one way or another he is never ever the disappointing one in the movie. If he showed up as Johnny Blaze again before The Multivers Saga ends, there will be plenty of cheering (...and laughter and head-shaking too, may well even be from the same people).

He can comeback for Avengers:Secret Wars but I would like to see someone else in the role moving forward.

Nic Cage is amazing in every role he plays.
The Flash did him an injustice with an unnecessary cgi face.
He would rock Ghost Rider a 3rd time.

The first Cage GR movie is one of my biggest guilty pleasure cape flicks so I wouldn't mind him coming back for Secret Wars. In terms of MCU casting for whatever Ghost Rider they choose to do, Joel McHale as Johnny Blaze, Jamie Campbell Bower as Danny Ketch, David Castañeda as Robbie Reyes, and Melissa Barrera as Alejandra Jones.
