New GHOST RIDER And HELSTROM Marvel Television Adaptations Coming To Hulu In 2020

The Spirit of Vengeance is returning to the small screen, and another hellish Marvel Comics creation is along for the ride.

Hulu has announced that new Ghost Rider and Helstrom series are in the works as part of its expanding partnership with Marvel Television, with both shows on track for 2020 premieres.

A version of Ghost Rider was introduced on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but while this show will also focus on the Robbie Reyes incarnation of the character, it doesn't sound like Gabriel Luna will be reprising the role. The show will be executive-produced by Ingrid Escajeda (Justified), who will also serve as showrunner, Paul Zbyszewski (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb.

Helstrom, meanwhile, will focus on Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the son and daughter of “a mysterious and powerful serial killer," who track down “the terrorizing worst of humanity.” In the comics, Daimon Hellstrom, a.k.a. Hellstorm, is the literal son of Satan, so this appears to be quite a lose adaptation. Helstrom also has Paul Zbyszewski and Jeph Loeb on board.

What do you guys make of this news? Would you be disappointed if Luna didn't return as Ghost Rider? Drop us a comment down below.

UPDATE: Maybe Luna is returning after all!

I'm torn because I'm really hyped to see more Gabriel Luna Ghost Rider, but I don't get Hulu, so I'm also sad.

@GoldGuy - Keep an eye out on Hulu deals. I got a year for $1 a month last Black Friday and last January, they ran a deal for a year free of Hulu if you subscribe to Spotify.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they run a new deal this Black Friday, if subscribe to Disney+.

@JoeInTheBox - Hmm, I hadn't thought of that, but waiting for a sale sounds like the way to go.

@JohnnyTBP - Im a big Ghost Rider fan and absolutely loved what they did with Robbie Reyes in Agents of Shield! This is some of the best Marvel news for me!!! I hope they can bring in Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch!

Eh. I'm at the point now where if it doesn't connect to the mcu proper, then I have no interest
Nightwing1015

@Vigor - Who is to say it won't connect properly. It's already connecting itself to an ABC show. So it'll probably keep pretty good continuity.

@Nightwing1015 -

If Feige isn't running it, it doesn't connect to the MCU.

For me personally once AOS is over I'm really only interested in official MCU stuff.

@Catmanlives - why? Why limit yourself? Could be the best comic book show ever, but you wont give it a chance just because its self contained? I've heard multiple people say the same thing you just said and I completely dont understand the thinking. If something's good, it's good. I dont only read comics that are part of a larger universe, attaching such unnecessary qualifiers only puts you in a box and disallows you from experiencing some potentially great content. I just dont get it. There is more to the genre than the MCU, and coming from someone who freaking loves the MCU, I have to say this level of MCU worship at the detriment of literally everything else is an unhealthy mindset and increasingly dangerous to the genre as a whole.

@PTM - I don't think it's as grave as all that. My wife and I did enjoy the Netflix shows and AOS but there are a lot of competing non-comic book series that we also want to see plus we have a life beyond sitting in front of the TV. There's so much choice that one is forced to be at least a little selective. And besides, that's just the personal choice of two people. The series isn't going to live or die on whether we see it. It'll get plenty on attention from others I'm sure.

Uhhhhh. What the hell is that description for Hellstorm? And I’m sorry but Robbie Reyes is a pale shadow of the greatness of Johnny Blaze. I have severe doubts of these shows being done justice on a Hulu budget. But I already have Hulu so I gues we’ll see.

@TheUnworthyThor - the fact that Disney is letting Ghost Rider waste away on these tiny little shows is sad. especially when they have doctor strange and all his mystical stories in the MCU proper it's a perfect way to bring in Ghost Rider. like you said none of them are even featuring the great Johnny Blaze. The Rider is literally one of the coolest characters on screen.
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 5/1/2019, 6:48 AM
@TheUnworthyThor - I'm not sure there's any fixing that now though. Johnny Blaze is done as Ghost Rider in the MCU. Maybe a prequel about him could be made?
