According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Crazy Rich Asians breakout Henry Golding is in talks to take on the title role in
Snake Eyes. The
G.I. Joe spinoff will be directed by Robert Schwentke (
RED,
R.I.P.D.) and is Paramount Pictures' attempt to expand the franchise, which is, of course, based on Hasbro's popular toyline.
First appearing in Marvel Comics' relaunch of the property in 1980, Snake Eyes never revealed his face or spoke, but it's hard to imagine that being the case in this live-action adaptation. After all, you don't hire an actor like Golding and then cover them up and stop them from talking!
Ray Park previously suited up as Snake Eyes in the earlier movies.
Evan Spiliotopoulos penned the screenplay for this movie, and it's said that it will
"center on Snake Eyes seeking revenge for his father’s death by joining ninja clan, in process finding acceptance." In other words, we're going to be getting an origin story, and that's something that will either excite fans or upset them.
