As the upcoming HBO Max Green Lantern series from Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim continues to round out its cast, we have word on which actor may be in line to play arguably the most anticipated character.
The Illuminerdi reports that Tobias Menzies is currently in talks to play Thaal Sinestro. A recent character breakdown revealed that this take on the classic GL villain "will serve as the strategic commander for the Corps and all Lanterns follow his orders without question. Although he is revered for his unmatched willpower and wisdom, a darker destiny belies his otherwise Zen demeanor."
It sounds like this series will stick to the source material by introducing Sinestro as a heroic member of the Green Lantern Corps before taking him down a darker path as the story progresses.
Menzies has appeared in the likes of Outlander, The Crown, and Rome, but is probably best known for his memorable turn as Edmure Tully on HBO's Game of Thrones. We'll have to wait and see if this pans out, but if he does land the role he'll join Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardner and Jeremy Irvine as Alan Scott. Simon Baz, Jessica Cruz and an all-new character named Bree Jarta are also expected to feature.
Lee Toland Krieger, who helmed the Superman and Lois pilot for The CW, has signed on to direct the first two episodes of Green Lantern, which is sceduled to begin shooting very soon in LA.
