HBO Max launches today, and while it won't have any original DC content to begin with, we know that a Green Lantern series will be one of the "DC Max Originals" eventually debuting on the platform. Very little has been revealed about the show - or how it will tie into that long-rumoured Green Lantern Corps movie - but it sounds like it won't be just another Arrowverse-style series.
During a recent Business Insider interview, HBO Max Content Chief Kevin Reilly was asked whether fans can expect Green Lantern to have a "movie-like" budget, and it sounds like that will be the case.
"Greg [Berlanti, who is producing a Green Lantern series for Max] has done a lot of really quality DC fare for The CW. These will not be that," he confirms. "These will be next step up in production value. You can expect the highest level of cinematic production values on those shows, and that's the same for the projects we've announced with J.J. [Abrams]."
Quizzed about whether the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director actually pitched Justice League Dark to HBO Max, Reilly indicated that this was, in fact, the case. "Yes, he's always loved it. He always felt that there was a lot of opportunity there and an unexplored territory, and kind of a pond that he could play in exclusively."
It's certainly an unexpected property for Abrams to have chosen, but one which has been in the works for a long time now (unfortunately, we're clearly never going to see Guillermo del Toro's take).
