Martin Campbell On How Much Of Green Lantern Will Be Set In Space!

It's a certainty that the movie will spend some time amongst the stars, but just how much otherworldly screen time we'll see remains up in the air..

While the Edge of Darkness director didn't have an exact percentage of the balance between space and earthbound events, Martin Campbell told MTV News that fans shouldnt worry as there will be plenty of action spent outside of Earth's orbit.

"I don't know what the percentage is, but there's quite a bit in space," he said. "The initial trip up there, the training sessions he has to go through in order to become a Green Lantern. Then, of course at the end, he goes back up to Oa again."

"There are a couple of bits on Earth in between the space scenes," said the director. "I think there will be enough of a balance between space and Earth to satisfy everybody."

I think this guy just wants to focus on the film he is promoting now, then will get into the Green Lantern mode.

Funny, we had no idea he was doing this film, and that's why the delay for production to start. The guy was on another movie.

Cool stuff, I really can't wait for Green Lantern, I'm sure it will be epic.

It's funny how we'll have a super-hero space themed epic and a super-hero Norse themed epic in the same year, can't wait for either film! :)

It actually would be really awesome to see, Sinestro evil in the 2nd film and they just fight whoever in the first one. It will make the scene between the two more real and passionate if it happens in the second movie ya know.

I've read Rebirth, Secret Origins, and currently in the last throws of Blackest Night. My understanding is that Rebirth and Secret Origins retconned much of the story going back to Emerald Dawn.
Emerald Dawn may be the best read, but the current thread of GL is following the relaunch through Secret Origins.

Thats good to hear there will be a balance between space and Earth because each new superhero movie really needs to have a unique selling point to them and Green Lantern will have to be space based and have earth scenes to ground the story in to bring something new to the superhero genre

Why limit to only 3 movies?

They can be stretched out to about 6-9 in a serial form. This lays opportunity for a couple of two-parters involving Sinestro's betrayal and insurrection, Carol Ferris' romance and conversion to Star Sapphire, and culminating into Blackest Night. But I also left out his turning into Parallax and the Spectre. Lots of room for a SERIAL of films.
I am at loss as to why Hollywood paints themselves into a corner with a stunted linear story arc that self-destructs future stories in the end.

"i dont want it petering out like the shit sony did with spidey"

"petering out?" Was that an intended pun?? LOL

Anyway, I don't think it could go that route at all! The comic book story is solid enough to keep these themes seemless. All they need is screenplay adaptation to fit it onto celluloid. I don't see why they would have Hal saving Carol everytime in the movie the way Spidey did MJ. Hal has a whole galaxy to defend, rather than New York City. There really is no reason to "take it slow." The material is all there!. Its like someone wanting to adapt all the classic novels into a serial films. The material is there, it just requires a keen hand to pen it into a screenplay. Finally, Hal Jordan could do a JLA movie, about 5 years after the release of GL. I imagine that's the amount of time it would take to release a battery of GL movies along with other DC/WB developed franchises, to culminate to a team up.

Superman is so unnecessary. The Flash is his best bud.
