New Green Lantern Shooting Location and Set Pics

New Green Lantern Shooting Location and Set Pics

Even though the set has since been locked down by the studio, a few onlookers were able to snag some pics and details.

As we all know by now, the Green Lantern cast and crew are currently shooting scenes around the city of New Orleans, LA. The first set pictures to debut were of a bar scene where ring toting Ryan Reynolds/Hal Jordan was paling around with the crew and an who could possibly be playing John Stewart. The production has since moved onto a parking lot set with an enormous crane set up for a little stunt work.

As I've been told, the scene they are currently shooting revolves around an altercation between Hal Jordan and a group of bar patrons. Hal was out to dinner with Carol Ferris (Blake Lively) when he goes outside and is assaulted by several men. The skirmish activates his ring which knocks one of the assailants into a parked car with a giant fist construct (hence the stunt crane).

One lucky visitor even got the chance to have Ryan sign his Green Lantern comic while he was on the set. He has stated that, though he couldn't get a close picture of it, Ryan was sporting his GL ring during the shoot:

After the first slew of pictures hit the net, the studio and local law enforcement have been running extra security to avoid any more amateur photography. Last night, the set was closed off from several blocks away in each direction and crew members were seen holding up tarps to obstruct the view.

Here's the pinpointed shooting location (for those of you familiar with the area) courtesy of OnLocationVacations:

The crew will be using this set, located on the 600 blocks of Tchoupitoulas St. and Commerce St. (between Lafayette St Girod St), sometime tonight after 7 pm EST.

Many thanks to Tommy and Renee for the pics and info!

I sure do wish TheGreenLanternCorps.com got credit for at least posting these pictures. They were sent to the site exclusively and they don't get a mention? Maybe they should watermark their stuff like CBM...What's the harm in linking to the original source?

tea: I don't know if you have ever been to New Orleans but it's like walking around in outer space at night, no green screen or make up needed. I love New Orleans.

I would love to go but, no comic-con till work picks back up again, thats the opposite side of the country from me. But I may follow the yellow brick road to Nawlins a couple of times, I don't live too far from there.

If I start getting steady work again I'll meet you there.

Marvel really needs to realise some Thor pics. Everytime a new set picture from the Green Lantern movie is released, I loose more and more interest in the Thor movie. Come on Marvel! Youve kept us waiting for the Cap news and the Thor pics, you need to keep us interested. DC is overshadowing you soo far.

Hopefully, Green Lantern will have a spot in ComicCon. Imagine the atmosphere there. Marvel with the fantasy epic of Thor and DC with the space epic of GL. I will probably attend this year. The last time I attended was 2006. I was wearing my punisher shirt and jacket holding my $5 BB guns:)

Very cool. Yeah I was wondering how long after those pictures were released that they would raise the security.

Anyone else getting excited for Clash of the Titans. ^_^ The one ad that I have a joygasm hearing all the time.

@Heim you're so lucky. I went to buy my tickets and they were all sold out. I am so sad. =(
RedDevil
RedDevil - 3/18/2010, 10:36 PM
@InstiGIRL
Yeah:) Being there felt so amazing and returning will be even better with 2011 being the biggest year for CBM films.
But hey don't be sad. ComicCon is always there so you will have many opportunities to get there. Not only that you can still watch it on live broadcast so you are not missing any moment except meeting the stars and seeing the movie trailers when they premiere.
But like Iron Man, the trailer will end up on youtube eventually then transition to regular commercial.

I'll do something for everyone on this site and that is when I go to Comic Con I will make an article updating every news I get and behind the scenes when I see the Thor trailer. Most likely security will restrict photo taking but I will do my best to explain the whole trailer. I will post pictures of myself near Thor (Chris Hemsworth) himself when I get the chance. If Ryan Reynolds is there to promote GL I will take a picture with him to and tell him of our awesome website.

Poni: Little gripe: Why post eastern time for the shoot? We're on Central Time in New Orleans.Outside of that little gripe, you're doing a great job keeping us updated on shooting activities for this film.

Thanks for posting the map of the shooting area. Please keep posting them whenever you hear of a shooting location. I know where this one is. That area isn't too far from where I am, so I'm getting a buddy who's a huge GL fan after work and I'm going to go poke around and see if I can spot anything. I'll report back on this thread tonight if I get lucky and see anything.

Poni: My buddy is telling me that they're telling him at work that they're blocking off the area near his building tonight. This is the 500-600 block of Carondelet and Baronne, with 700-900 blocks of cross street Lafayette in the blocked-off area. Could they be doing two locations? Anyone else around here, just want to share what I'm hearing. If I can't get any pics, I'm hoping one of y'all can.

comicb00kguy - 3/19/2010, 3:05 PM
My buddy's building is one of the taller ones in the area I mentioned. It may be possible to see something from in there. We shall see, if ground level proves fruitless. Jackson and St. Charles is a ways uptown from where all this is going on. You're absolutely right that there aren't many taller buildings around there. A couple of good bars and some good restaurants, but that's about it. This spot I'm talking about is in the middle of the CBD, but not near the taller buildings along Poydras.

As for the eastern time thing, it's just one of those little things that bugs the hell out of me, since I've always lived in Central time. It's distracting to have to knock an hour off of announced times for things. I only point it out because if you're telling someone here about shooting times, it's a lot easier to tell us in "our" time. Just one of those silly little gripes with things all older geeks like me have.

Walked over by Baronne and Carondelet after work. These are two parallel streets, and there was a lot of preliminary set up work going on over several blocks of them. Did see one cool thing- an electronic store set up that had a big window full of TV's, all of which had a WB logo on them. Couldn't get a pic because there was a lot of security and big union thugs around there and I couldn't get a good shot of it. Unfortunately, I didn't hang around too long. I was starving hungry, and it was going to be hours before they did anything around there, and there is almost nothing open to eat unless I wanted to walk to Canal Street (which is just teeming with aggressive panhandlers and the dregs of society). I could also figure that the way they had things set up, they were going to have it locked down pretty well where I wasn't going to get a good view of anything. I'll try again when I hear of them shooting elsewhere.
