Nick Jones Jr. Comments on John Stewart Cameo Getting Cut in Green Lantern

Nick Jones Jr. filmed scenes as John Stewart, who is a character that in the comics later becomes a Green Lantern as well, but those scenes ended up on the cutting room floor.

Special thanks for CBM's Greengo for the heads up

Nick Jones Jr. is a relatively unknown actor who was bestowed the honor of being John Stewart in Ryan Reynold's superhero flop. The ex-marine has been in only a handful of films, in bit parts. Nick is a big comic book fan, and was excitedly doing interviews for Green Lantern expecting to see his brief appearance as a pre-superhero John Stewart.

Maybe it was good that his scenes were cut, so that the film didn't ruin two versions of Green Lanterns. Would I have liked to have seen a John Stewart cameo? Yes, and it doesn't surprise me that they cut the Easter egg since that movie made bad decision after bad decision. At least the movie was consistently bad.

Maybe they can reboot the franchise and approach it from the perspective of John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, or Guy Gardner. That would be the best way to make the moviegoers of the world forget the stinker that Martin Campbell inflicted upon them.

BRANDON JONES: Nick, it’s a pleasure to talk to you again. Let me begin by clearing the air on a tough topic because it’s got to be frustrating when your screen time in “Battle:LA” and “Green Lantern” seemed to vanish. Tell us how working on these two blockbusters helped you as an actor.

NICK JONES: That’s fine, it was a little disappointing at first but when I took a step back to see the big picture I was reminded how blessed I am to be where I am today. I remember dressing as Tony the Tiger when I first jumped into acting so I understand that this is an uphill grind. I’m prepared for that and I welcome the challenge. One of my favorite quotes is from Barack Obama, “I never expected to be here. I always knew this journey was improbable. I’ve never been on a journey that wasn’t.” What I get most from that quote is to always stay positive and to also know what you’re getting yourself into. I think working on those two particular projects helped me most with my professionalism. I need to be able to hold my own with actors I grew up watching and admiring. Something I thought I couldn’t do at first because I’m a fan at heart. It’s hard not to nerd out at times. Now I have that comfort level and confidence. The more I do in this business the more it will help me to create my own presence and that’s a major key to success.

BBJ: Any word whether we’ll see Nick Jones Jr as John Stewart on the “Green Lantern” DVD, a deleted scene perhaps.

NICK JONES: I’m a huge fan of Easter eggs and I know this film originally planned a bunch of them. Hopefully they all make it into the Director’s cut.

He looks like he could be a good Falcon. ;P
I want Chiwetel Ejiofor as John Stewart anyways, maybe save him for a GL reboot or Justice League.

I paraphrased the last bit:)

I could see him as John Stewart, easily. Plus isn't Stewart himself an ex-marine or something? There's a link between the two that could really help him if he ever regains that role in a reboot :)

Have this guy in the sequel to replace Reynolds. Then get a new director, that way you kind of get a reboot with out re telling of origin and you can keep Mark Strong.

When they reboot this, they should go with an older actor for Hal and just skim over the origin. Have him as an experienced member of the Corps and maybe allude to his origins in flashbacks.

@yossarian

Someday Hollywood will get it right and leave the final decisions on the way these films are made with the ones that illustrate and write the comic books and not the studio suits.

Its not about giving up power at the expense of less merchandising, but about saving this genre of film from becoming irrelevant and a joke.

I say that cause Marvel tends to go with younger actors (besides Ruffalo, Norton, and Downey) for it's superheroes.

Ummm guys, I remember reading that it was confirmed this guy was lying and that he was just an extra. His breif cameo was never meant to be John Stewart, but this guy hyped it up on Twitter.
