"Geoff Johns is it," Ryan Reynolds told MTV News when asked if there were any comic books or creators in particular that influenced his performance as Hal Jordan in the upcoming movie. "His 'Secret Origins' book is what I use as the bible for this."

"It's an easy thing to reference because it's an origin story as well," he went on to explain, "so that was the source material I stuck to."

For those of you who may not have read "Secret Origins", here is the graphic novel's synopsis:

Witness the beginning of the career of the greatest Green Lantern of all as the secret origin of Hal Jordan is revealed in this title, available for the first time in trade paperback featuring Green Lantern issues #29 to 35. Discover how and why Hal received the power ring that changed his life forever.

Uncover the mystery of the death of his predecessor, Abin Sur, and find out why Jordan’s mentor, Sinestro, became obsessed with the prophecy of the apocalyptic end of the universe known as "The Blackest Night." Written by Geoff Johns, with art by Ivan Reis and Oclair Albert.

Green Lantern which also stars Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and Mark Strong will be released in cinemas on June 17, 2011!

It only confirms what could be inferred from the fact that there was Geoff Johns as consultant for the movie, but it's good to have it confirmed nonetheless.

I fantastic to see an actor pumped for a comic role! Anyone who's read Johns' work knows Reynolds was perfect casting. I'm looking forward to Buried, but small space kind of freak me out.

Yep, nothing too new here...but I agree that it's great to find actors that are excited about their characters. Hugh Jackman, Roberty Downey JR, and Ryan Reynolds have all been great examples of that!

So was Ed Norton...but don't get me started...haha

I cannot wait for this movie, 2011 feels so far away. I'm glad he used Secret Origins as a reference it's one of my favorite tales from Geoff Johns.

It makes sense; Secret Origin is pretty similar to the movie they're making. Hal's childhood and family, the introduction of Carol Ferris, Hector Hammond, Abin Sur, Kilowog, Sinestro, etc.

They even had Secret Origin's writer - Geoff Jhhns - as a producer on the film. If the film turns out half as good as the book, it'll be a cool flick.

Secret Origin is one of my favorite graphic novels I own. I'm glad to hear the movie is based on this one, and that Reynolds used it as the source.

Pretty excited for this film!

Its great to hear that Ryan Reynolds is calling Secret Origins his bible, its great source material to base his performance off of. I've been waiting for a Green Lantern movie for a long and to hear how much he cares for this role only proves that this is going to be a great flick. Also to hear that Geoff Johns is a producer on the film totally helps the fact its going to be great. I mean Geoff Johns is the reason Green Lantern is the way he his today, he completely rejuvenated the Green Lantern series.

Buried looks like a good movie. Small budget but intelligently used. Kinda reminds me of Phone Booth, and Colin Farrel excelled in that.
