Chris Pratt Describes 'Star-Lord' As A "Kid At Heart" In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
Possibly hinting at Peter Quill's arc in the movie, Chris Pratt reveals that he wasn't able to read the Guardians of the Galaxy script before signing on, but the Marvel brand was enough to get him on board
The Guardians of the Galaxy may not have become significant in the cosmic Marvel Universe until their modern-day reboot in the comics, but their big-screen adaptation has certainly piqued the interest of many as the otherworldly “antiheroes” come aboard the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Just the fact that he was part of the Marvel brand was really exciting,” Chris Pratt told Fandango about the team's leader Peter Quill, Star-Lord. “I was signed up to do the movie before I was even allowed to read a script, so it wasn't like something about this particular character that got me to do it. The fact that it was a Marvel movie is what got me to do it. Granted, once I did read it there were so many things about the character that I love, and one thing is that he's very much a kid at heart,” adds the actor. “He's like a man-child. And I like the idea that he's got a false sense of bravado. Deep down inside he's lonely and desperate. But on the outside he walks around like he's big and tough, and I don't think he does a great job of convincing everybody that he's not just a scared little child.”
Meanwhile, like Chris Pratt, his Guardians of the Galaxy co-star Zoe Saldana has been doing press for another one of her upcoming films and has dished on her role as Gamora in the James Gunn-directed film. “Well the script is so fun, very thought out plot which felt very witty. Not a super simple studio formula,” she said. “I like when characters are very relevant and I tend to look for characters that aren’t the girlfriend or the wife and fortunately, they tend to be in space.”
“Guardians of the Galaxy,” the next epic adventure from Marvel Studios, is directed by James Gunn from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn, and the film will introduce audiences to a whole new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Academy Award® winner Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close as Nova Prime, with Vin Diesal as Groot and Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is scheduled for release August 1, 2014!
