GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY's VFX Supervisor Explains 'How To Build A GROOT'
Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy managed to score two Oscar nominations - including one for 'Achievement in Visual Effects'. Ahead of this Sunday's ceremony, one of the movie's talented VFX team has gone into detail about the creation of Groot. Check it out!
Vin Diesel's lovable 'Groot' ended up being the fan favorite character from last summer's Guardians Of The Galaxy, and ultimately played big part of the movie's huge overall success. After bringing this character to life with such style, the film's VFX team have since received plenty well-deserved recognition for their efforts - including a prestigious nomination at the 2015 Academy Awards.
Ahead of the Oscar ceremony tomorrow, VFX supervisor, Nicholas Aithadi, sat down with The Globe And Mail to discuss some of the details involved in creating everybody's favorite walking-talking-tree. The Globe And Mail team have since put together a fantastic little infographic, highlighting the key areas of importance in Groot's anatomy. Check it out below...
The film's director, James Gunn, later shared the infographic on his official Facebook page. He added a few um... slightly specific comments to what his colleague had to say - choosing focus on a certain area of Groot's body. He also wished his VFX, special effects and make-up teams the best of luck for tomorrow too!
"Some interesting tidbits here. It makes me remember how all the early Groot designs made him look so old, whereas I always saw Groot as a teenager. What it doesn't mention was how incredibly difficult it was to work on the crotch area - either a piece of bark looked too cheesy and fig leaf like or a root was in just the wrong place that looked like an ingrown [redacted]. There were more iterations of Groot's crotch than any part of his body (for Rocket it was his mouth and feet)."
It seems like a lot of hard work has gone into building this popular character. What do you guys think - will this be enough to see Guardians beat out the likes of Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and Interstellar at tomorrow's awards? As always, leave your thoughts down below!
