Is [SPOILER] Star-Lord's Father In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, Vol. 2? [UPDATE]

An infamous scooper would have you believe that this Marvel Comics superhero is Star-Lord's (Chris Pratt) father in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2. and that this particular role was the one that Matthew McConaughey turned down. Spoiler Warning

According to the infamous, superhero movie 'scooper' El Mayimbe, he's learned the identity of Star-Lord's father in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.  We learned from the first film that Star-Lord's father was described as an angel, composed of light. He was also described as an ass-hole by Yandu. Furthermore, according to the Nova Corps. Star-Lord's father comes from a race not seen in a very long, long time.  Given these clues, it makes the report from Heroic Hollywood a bit of a head-scratcher as the name they supply doesn't entirely line up with all the clues we've previously been given.

According to HH, Star-Lord's father is Spoiler [Captain Marvel or Mar-Vell to be precise].  On paper, it seems plausible but when you examine the clues given in the first film, it doesn't line up with Marvel Comics lore unless Kevin Feige and co. are prepared to do some radical, re-imagining of this particular character's backstory.  With that in mind, takes this news with the usual dosage of salt in hand but be prepared to give praise to the divisive El Mayimbe if this one proves true.

[UPDATE] James Gunn wasted little time debunking that rumor.

Uh oh. Gunn ain't gonna like this. Whether it's true or not. But I do hope we get some back story of Mar-Vell to tie into Captain Marvel to be a little more faithful to the comics.

Everything he said was interesting and I can see Marvel taking the same liberties he said, but Im still going with Starhawk as his dad.

I might add this to my script just for fun.

Let's see if James debunks it.

I'm not terribly thrilled if true, but it's Mayimbe, so:

So both his parents died of cancer?

None of those clues make sense, though. Can Mar-Vell hold the Infinity Stones without an Infinity Gauntlet?

It would be cool, I guess, but only because I want to see Gunn's take on as many cosmic characters as possible. But I'm really not believing this, Ronan was Kree and would've died faster holding the orb, but Peter would only be half kree(if this rumor was true) yet the movie implies he would be able to survive longer despite the fact that humans apparently would die MUCH faster. And plus making I don't think the kree are ancient, which is also what was said about his father. No, nuh uh, not buying it. If Mayimbe wasn't such a tool and a moron, and addressed his shitty scoops in the past I might believe it. I think we should all just wait to see if Gunn responds.

Yeah but, no.

People seem to constantly discredit the fact that Nova Prime Rael says Quill's father must've been something ancient that the Nova Corps have never encountered before. Can't be Kree (no Mar-Vell) and can't be Titan (no Eros). [frick]ing Starhawk all the way.

What was the last thing he was right about? Has he ever owned up to how bad he shit the bed with the Chris Pine/Hal Jordan bullshit?

Obviously we don't know if it's true until we hear it from Gunn, but i would be okay with this. Even if just because we'll get the original captain marvel. If true, i wonder if they'll call him captain marvel, or will they only use that moniker on Ms. Marvel. It would also make sense for him to be in this universe, so they can give danvers a proper origin.

Haha!

I actually thought it was Eros but this would be an interesting twist.
