James Gunn Offers Plenty Of New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Vol. 2 Tidbits

Well, they're really more like hints as he doesn't go into specifics - but during a video interview with fans if Facebook, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn answered questions about the Marvel sequel as best he could, and Adam Warlock's name came up...

During a 50-minute Q&A with fans on Facebook, director James Gunn offered up a few tantalizing teases of what we can expect from Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2.

First off he confirms that casting for the Marvel sequel is almost complete, and that the 10 month shoot would commence in Atlanta in February. Understandably, Gunn doesn't really reveal anything concrete - but when quizzed about the possibility of fan-favourite character Adam Warlock showing up, he doesn't deny it, and states there will be "at least" one new face joining the ranks of the intergalactic A-holes. However, Nova fans will be disappointed, as Peter Quill will be the only "earthling" in the movie.

"I’m not going to give names and I won’t give numbers either, but there will be at least one new character in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. You guys gotta wait and see... Everything’s going to be different in the ‘Infinity Wars.’ I’m a lot more concerned with ‘Vol. 2’ than I am with ‘Infinity Wars.’ The way the movie [’Vol. 2’] is structured and made – it really is a story unto itself. It’s not about leading up to anything else. It’s about the Guardians and their lives."

Gunn is also confident that he'll continue working with Marvel on "Guardians and Guardians-related projects" as long as this upcoming sequel is successful. You can check out the Q&A in full below.

Guardians 3 should be set after Infinity War and be an adaption of The Thanos Imperative.

This isn't really news. We've known we're going to get "At least one new Guardian" for about a year now.

The shoot isn't 10 months, he's there for 10 months to oversee set construction and the remaining pre-prod. Shoot is only supposed to be 4 or 5.

As someone who has read hundreds of 1960's Marvel comics, I would rather Guardians have a post credits scene for Adam Warlock and then Thor and Hulk battle "Him" just like Thor #165-166.

@Omarvls

With the Hulk having a major presence in this movie, and it being in space mostly (praying it is), if Darcy is in this movie I will shit all over it.

Why do people keep assuming that Nova is gonna show up when Gunn said he hates Nova??

"I think certain people really like Nova. Quite honestly, I really don't care. He's not a favourite character. I don't know whether he's ever going to show up.

I think they serve a purpose? I like the Nova Corps, I just don't like Nova that much! He's okay, you know? I just don't like that helmet!"

I'm guessing Thor Ragnorok is going to have more of a build up to infinity war then Guardians will

Well vision is essentially adam warlock now so hopefully this gives nova a chance of showing up

and is it just me or does it seem like more money is/may be put into the effects/visuals for Guardians then Avengers? Or maybe it's just because Gunn uses more practical? Idk

Just add Adam and we're cool, though I would love to see some more female characters like Phyla vell, Moondragon, or Angela, who has potential to be a fan favorite. Also, Gunn never said he disliked the character, don't know where people are getting this, there is no reason to make him a Guardians considering he NEVER was one. Here is the quote,
“I don’t want Nova right now because I think Quill being the only earthling is important. That serves the entire movie going audience and not just the handful of Nova fans. Sorry if that upsets you."

There is also this quote which is more harsh, but he still acknowledges the character in a somewhat admirable way:

"I think certain people really like Nova. Quite honestly, I really don't care. He's not a favourite character. I don't know whether he's ever going to show up.

I think they serve a purpose? I like the Nova Corps, I just don't like Nova that much! He's okay, you know? I just don't like that helmet!

No, I don't think Thanos should actually die at all in Infinity War, simply have the film end with the Guardians and the Nova Corp taking him in to space so they can lock him up, but in GOTG 3 he busts out of containment and screws everything up.

Guardians SHOULD appear in Infinity Wars. But they SHOULD NOT be main characters. So they shouldn't really have arcs. They should have a narrative-based purpose, some funny quips, and some action beats. But it's an Avengers movie.

Let's focus on the Avengers, old and new.
