Marvel Studio has shown they’ve become an indomitable force in the Hollywood film industry with their latest success in Guardians of the Galaxy, arguably their most obscure property on the silver screen thus far. With my last two FanFic well received by those who read them—which were, admittedly, rather long—I thought I would try once again in creating another FanFic, this time for the sequel to this summer’s newest blockbuster: Guardians of the Galaxy.
Note: Unlike my FanFic for Aquaman and Thor III: Ragnarok, this FanFic is not a step-by-step description of the plot. Rather, it is a general overview of what I thought should happen. Fancast for additional characters to follow.
Approximately 2 Years Later….
Kree-Chitauri (Skrull) War
Following the aftermath of the genocidal campaign of rogue Kree, Ronan the Accuser, and the death of “The Other” at his hands, Thanos sends a Chitauri invasion force to the Kree Empire as punishment for his betrayal. Though the Kree Empire is large and their military strong, the combine strength of the Chitauri, Thanos, and others of his servants (such as the Sakaraan) quickly turn the tide and puts the Kree on the run. Throughout the war, heroes arise on both sides of the conflict. Among them is Captain Mar-Vell, the Kree’s foremost hero, who successfully repels a Chitauri invasion. However, he sees the fruitlessness of his actions as Thanos will simply send more soldier in a war of attrition. After consulting with the Kree ruling council, who soundly rejects his idea over pride, Mar-Vell travels alone to the homeworld of their enemy, Xandar, to seek aid.
Since the decimation of the Nova Corp by Ronan the Accuser, the Xandarian has initiated a new program known as the Centurion Project to combat greater threats like Ronan. Though it shows potential, it is still in its early stages. The Nova Centurion are outfitted with advance battle suits that grants their wearer additional power including flight, superstrength, speed, durability, and the ability to fire gravimetric pulse. They also have space-faring capabilities without the need of a ship. When Mar-Vell arrives on Xandar, his pleas fall on deaf years and he is quickly imprisoned. However, his arrival sets off a chain of reactions culminating in the Chitauri launching a pre-emptive attack on Xandar believing Xandar were to enter the war on Kree’s side. With the help of Mar-Vell, the Nova-Centurion, led by Rhomann Dey, push the Chitauri back. With no choice left, the Xandarians joins forces with the Kree in their war against the Chitauri.
Thanos
The Mad-Titan Thanos revel in the war—not only as a service to Mistress Death—but as a chance to regain the Infinity Stones (it is the Chitauri who seeks vengeance for the death of their leader). Xandar joining the fray gives Thanos an excuse to launch a massive assault on the planet, ultimately killing Nova Prime Irani Rael, scattering the leaderless Nova Corps, and reclaiming the Power Gem. Meanwhile, attempts to find and kill Taneleer Tivian and claim the Aether, has failed. As such, Thanos foregoes his minion and personally tracks down the Collector, an Elder of the Universe, and killing him, finally getting his hand on the Aether. Having thus far claimed two of the stones, Thanos sets his eyes to Asgard, the Tesseract, and the Infinity Gauntlet.
Note: I had Thanos personally kill the Collector despite my preference to keep him in the background because I thought it was time some extent of his power should be demonstrated. What better way than to kill a being as powerful as an Elder of the Universe? It is no coincidence that Thanos servants have thus far failed in doing so.
Guardians of the Galaxy
The story begins mid-action for the Guardians of the Galaxy after traversing throughout the galaxy and discovering the Eye of Avalon. However, they find themselves being hunted by Nebula, on a revenge quest against Gamora and the group. They are able to blast her away with the Eye of Avalon only to find themselves ambushed and captured by the Ravager. It is here that Quill finds out more about his lineage through Yondu. Though he hasn’t thought much about his father, his curiosity this time gets the best of him and he escapes with the other Guardians in search of his father.
Their quest ultimately takes them remarkably close to Earth; Titan, the largest moon of Saturn. Here they meet an ancient being called the Eternal, the long-forgotten forefather to humanity. His name is Valkin and though he states he is not Peter Quill’s father, they are of the same race. Valkin recounts the Eternal’s long history for the Guardians of the Galaxy, revealing that Thanos was once a member of their race. However, driven by madness and fascinated by death, he betrayed his people and waged a genocidal war against them, ultimately wiping out their entire civilization. Valkin warns the group what would happen if Thanos got his hands on the Infinity Stones. Before Quill leaves, Valkin reveals that any surviving Eternals are likely hiding, including his father.
Face between returning to Earth or joining his friends in the fight against Thanos, he chooses the latter and leaves to join the war with the Kree and Xandarians as well as the Ravagers.
Note: Because Peter Quill’s father in the comics, J’son of Spartax, is far too obscure of a character and doesn’t fit the bill as an “ancient being”, I switched his lineage to an Eternal. In this way, his storyline will connect back with Thanos. Perhaps mating with an Eternal and giving birth to a son as special as Quill is what ultimately poisoned and killed his mother?
Note: I believe Nebula should have a bigger role but I haven’t figured out what that would be yet. Any suggestions?
The End
Rhomann Dey and Captain Mar-Vell face off against several genetically engineered Chitauri—the MCCU equivalent of the Super-Skrull—as a large-scale spacefaring battle rage around them. They are ultimately aided by the Guardians of the Galaxy who help them turn the tide of the battle. Mar-Vell and Dey fight aboard a Chitauri starship that accidentally warps drive towards Earth. Dey and Mar-Vell are injured destroying the ship and crash towards Earth. A mortally wounded Dey crash land near Boston College where he is discovered by a student name, Richard Rider. As Mar-Vell crashes towards Earth, he collides with a fighter jet over United States airspace.
Meanwhile the Kree, Xandarians, and Guardians of the Galaxy are able to repel the Chitauri’s latest offensive though they know the war is far from over. Peter Quill gains access to the Nova Corp’s archives and resume his research of both the Eternals and his father, eventually reaffirming his desire to find him.
After-Credit Scene
Mar-Vell lays unconscious somewhere in the Southwestern desert of United States, the pilot of the down fighter jet parachutes in, removing her helmet to reveal her blonde hair. The pilot watches in awe at the alien before her.
Note: I thought about having Adam Warlock make an After-Credit scene cameo but thought against it. Too many new characters would be introduced.
New Character Fancast
Dan Stevens as Cpt. Mar-Vell – I’m going to be totally honest here: I don’t really know very much about Dan Stevens. In fact, I can’t even recall where I first heard of him. In any case, he looks the part and is certainly an up-and-coming actor. After a number of years on English TV he recently took part in several higher profile films such as
The Fifth Estate and the upcoming Liam Neeson film,
A Walk Among Tombstone, and the third
Night at the Museum film. I see Mar-Vell as a supporting role in the MCCU anyway and didn’t think a well-known action star was needed for the role. If Lee Pace can pull off Ronan, then Dan Steven can pull off Mar-Vell (both English actors have similar trajectory in their career). One major change I envision for Mar-Vell is his skin color. Because Kree thus far has been established as blue-skin extraterrestrials, I believe we should keep Mar-Vell as such (as oppose to his Caucasian skin tone in the comics). I think it’ll avoid any potential confusion.
Yvonne Strahovski as Carol Danvers - For the pivotal role of Carol Danvers, I went with a fan favorite. I believe Yvonne Strahovski is long overdue for a bigger role in cinema and with Ms. Marvel inevitably (in my opinion) appearing in the MCCU as at least a major supporting character, this could be her opportunity. Coupled with her looks, acting ability, and experience with action, I think she can definitely pull off the role of Carol Danvers.
Brenton Thwaites as Richard Rider – I’m not quite sure if this pick is controversial or not because I don’t know how many people know who Brenton is. Sure, he may be a unconventional pick considering how bad-ass Nova typically is. This coupled with the fact that I don’t typically like casting actors younger than 27 makes him an odd choice. However, Richard Rider is supposed to be a high schooler when he is “drafted” into the Nova Corp so I intentionally looked for someone who was young (in this movie he is a college student). Along with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, I think maybe it might be time for Marvel to maybe cast a little younger for future installments. Note that despite his baby-face, Brenton is 6’2” so physically he matches up with any of the other heroes. He is also an up-and-coming actor with a number of major releases in the coming months/years.
Sorry if these ideas didn't seem fully form. Just wanted to get it out of my system.
Hope you guys enjoy the read. Comment in the usual place!
