Last we heard, Sony Pictures and Mattel Films had scrapped plans for their live-action Masters of The Universe movie, but the project has now found a new lease of life on Netflix with a new actor in the lead.
THR reports that West Side Story actor Kyle Allen is set to play He-Man, replacing the previously cast Noah Centineo (Black Adam), who parted ways with the film last year.
The movie s reportedly set to begin production this summer, with Nee Brothers (The Lost City) directing from a screenplay they co-wrote with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings scribe David Callaham. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch will produce, along with DeVon Franklin. Robbie Brenner and Kevin McKeon will oversee the project for Mattel Films.
The story will focus on "an orphan named Adam, who discovers he is a prince destined to be the savior of a faraway land and must quickly learn of his power in order to save his home from the evil Skeletor."
This will be Netflix's third property based on the classic '80s toy line and animated series, with Kevin Smith's Masters of the Universe: Revelation and CG-animated show He-Man and the Masters of the Universe already available to stream.
Allen recently had a supporting role in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, and has also appeared in American Horror Story, The Path and The Map of Tiny Perfect Things.
