New MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Documentary Recalls Challenges Of Making Live-Action He-Man

Goddard approached Warner Home Video about re-releasing the MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE film on DVD for it's 25th anniversary including all the new special features he and Lay had begun working on. Even Bryan Singer (Director, X-MEN, USUAL SUSPECTS) agreed to come onboard to moderate an all new commentary track with Goddard and Frank Langella (Skeletor). After months of communication and positive response from the studio, Goddard was told that they would not move forward with their plan to re-issue the film at the moment.

Both Lay and Goddard were immensely disappointed since they had begun compiling and creating a plethora of all new content which would have made this reissue a very special DVD for fans of the film and the Masters franchise.

Here's a short sample of the new documentary that was meant to be the centerpiece of the new DVD reissue of the film. If the new anniversary DVD won't be released, Lay still plans on including this material in the special features of his upcoming TOY MASTERS film when it is released on DVD/BLU-RAY. - he-man.org

I haven't seen this thing in forever.. I always likes it when I was younger. I'd give it a whirl on blu-ray if the opportunity presented itself.

I was disappointed as a kid because this movie had nothing to do with He-Man, the animated series. However, Skeletor rocked!

He man is on The Hub every saturday. I DVR it and watch it with my youngest kid now. He loves it too. He Man is classic; wish they'd have been able to make the new movie!

I think I'm gonna puke.

This poor guy's trying to make a decent movie, and these exe.'s who have the stranglehold on the cash, are utterly sapping all the creativity and passion out of production.

Outrageous!

One other reason the movie failed is because the film technology wasn't there yet.
Now there's CGI and advanced make-up techniques.

Re-boot this. I think it could be really cool.

I just popped it in the DVD player the other day to watch with my kids and you know what? Aside from the incredibly cringe inducing dialog delivery from Dolph himself when he said "I don't want innocent people to die!", the rest of the film is actually SOLID! Sure it's one of the worst adaptations ever made cause it doesn't solely focus on He-Man in Eternia, but once you set your mind to accept it, you're left with a very decent soundtrack, good special effects for that time and acting that ranges from decent to flat out spectacular! Frank Langella's Skeletor is a better performance than Ledger's Joker, Brandon Lee's The Crow and Hopkins' Hannibal, all put together!!!

Good find @teabag.That took some diggin' lol!

I have two stipulations for a MOTU film:

1. Do something with Orko so he isn't...ehem, gay.

2. Whatever actress cast to play Teela HAS TO BE UNBELIEVABLY HOT!!!

I remember watching this many times as a kid. Frank Langella was so awesome as Skeletor. He was basically the power of the movie.

The earth scenes sucked. I wanted to see more Eternia and other He-Man´s friends and other villains.

I hope someone starts to make the new movie soon!
