We never expected A Quiet Place Part II to quite live up to that superb first instalment, but John Krasinski delivered a worthy follow-up that left horror fans anxious for a third chapter. We hope the movie will ultimately happen, but it was recently revealed that filmmaker Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter) had been tapped to take charge of a spinoff.
Unfortunately, Deadline is now reporting that Paramount Pictures and Nichols have parted ways on the project because the director is focusing on a sci-fi movie he's developing for the studio.
The hunt is already on for a replacement, and this expansion of the Quiet Place franchise is a priority for the studio after that second instalment vastly exceeded box office expectations in the midst of the pandemic. Krasinski came up with the idea for this spinoff, and the trade notes that the hope at Paramount is that this will be the first in an entire slate of movies set in this post-apocalyptic world.
However, Krasinski and Emily Blunt are not expected to reprise their respective roles in this untitled spinoff.
There's been no official word on A Quiet Place Part III, but the second movie definitely set the stage for a third chapter continuing the story of the Abbott family.
"John Krasinski ratchets up the tension to almost unbearable levels in A Quiet Place Part II, a sequel that doesn't disappoint thanks to its stellar cast, more big scares, and a story that feels earned after that excellent first movie," we said in our review of the sequel a little earlier this year.
We'll be sure to keep you updated on this hunt for a director.
