BOX OFFICE: EVIL DEAD Set For $26M; G.I. JOE: RETALIATION Muscles Its Way To #2
There's been a few surprises at the North American box office this weekend, and while Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead has indeed taken the top spot with an impressive $26 million, G.I. Joe: Retaliation has decimated the 3D re-release of Jurassic Park by taking the #2 spot.
Fede Alvarez's remake of Evil Dead has continued to exceed expectations as it easily took the top spot in North America with an impressive three day total of $26 million. That's far beyond many initial estimates and a fantastic start for a movie which cost only $17 million to produce. It was thought that Jurassic Park 3D would take second place, but G.I. Joe: Retaliation has muscled its way into that position with an admirable $20.7 million. That takes the sequel's current domestic cume to over $86 million! The 3D re-release (which was overseen by Steven Spielberg himself) dropped to #4 and has taken a predicted total of $18.7 million. You can read my review of Evil Dead by clicking HERE and G.I.
