CHILD'S PLAY Reboot In The Works From The Director Of POLAROID & The Producers Of IT

Chucky has been haunting people's imaginations for the better part of 30 years, and now it appears as if the killer doll will be making a comeback in a new reboot from the same producing team behind IT.

MGM is currently working on a reboot of the popular slasher film, Child's Play. The classic horror franchise has been around since 1988 and has already produced several sequels, but the studio is looking to bring the creepy doll into the modern age.

Plot details are sparse, but Collider hears that the reboot will focus on the group of kids which they likened to the gang from Stranger Things. The doll will be technologically advanced and somehow find its way into the kid's world. There is no indication if the new doll will still be named Chucky, but Collider says it is likely.

The film has not begun casting yet, but signs seem to point to Brad Dourif returning to voice the psychotic doll as he has in all previous outings.

Child's Play has signed Polaroid director Lars Klevberg to helm the project, which will be written by Tyler Burton Smith. Joining them will be the producing duo of David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, the producers behind the It reboot.

There seems to be a small rights battle going on at the moment as well. Universal owns the home entertainment rights to the franchise, but MGM seems to have found a work-around to allow them to reboot the series, keep Universal happy and allow series creator Don Mancini to move forward with his  planned TV series.

As of right now there is no release date for the film.
