Cool New Mondo GODZILLA Poster

Cool New Mondo GODZILLA Poster

Austin-based design studio Mondo have commissioned a new poster for Gareth Edwards' Godzilla reboot for this year's SXSW festival. Phantom City Creative came up with the design, which depicts the legendary monster rising from the smoke of a city he's just decimated.

An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

Gareth Edwards directs Godzilla, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Inception), Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche (The English Patient, Cosmopolis), and Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck., The Bourne Legacy) and Bryan Cranston (Argo, TV's Breaking Bad).

Okay, it's Mondo so it's cool, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it looks either like Moltar's pet lizard or Godzilla ate a few too many Dunkin' Donuts stores.

Great idea, Mondo always has such inspired artwork. The look of Godzilla in this is movie is incredible, not to mention it's the biggest Godzilla to date on film size wise so that's gonna be awesome to see.

P.S. Several dozen test screenings for TASM2 were held today, and buzz around the internet is that this film is indeed the caliber of film TDK was for Batman. Obviously fanboys can be bias but everything circling around the web today is this film is phenomenal and as good a CBM to date, guess we'll know by the end of April for sure.

I think it's a little bit more abstract than "...the legendary monster rising from the smoke of a city he's just decimated."

Pretty sure Godzilla is basically made of smoke, or an explosion or whatever, likening him to the destructive force of an atomic bomb: the metaphor that the creature was conceived to be in the first place, back in 1954.

I love this poster, but when I imaging that it's actually supposed to be Godzilla, as opposed to a nightmarishly surreal image of a monster made of humanity's own hellfire and smoke, it looks like crap. If that artist was really trying to depict the "monster rising from the smoke" (and I'm positive he/she wasn't), it would be a complete failure.
