CRIMES OF THE FUTURE Red Band Trailer Provides A Disturbing New Look At David Cronenberg's Sci-Fi Horror Film

When a movie's tagline is "surgery is the new sex," you should probably prepare yourself to witness some seriously messed up shit!

Neon  (via SFF Gazette) has now released a full, red band trailer for David Cronenberg's (Videodrome, The Fly, A History of Violence) Crimes of the Future, which is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later this month.

This latest glimpse into the legendary filmmaker's nightmarish world contains freaky body-horror footage, as Viggo Mortensen's performance artist puts his mutating organs on display. A recent report indicated that the mysterious sci-fi horror flick is likely to cause a significant amount of “chaos and controversy,” with the last 20 minutes, in particular, expected to cause "walk-outs, fainting and real panic attacks."

Looking at this trailer, we're not a bit surprised! Check it out for yourselves below along with a new poster.

The film is set "in a distant future where humans have evolved beyond their natural state and into a metamorphosis, altering their biological makeup. In this setting, a performance artist named Saul Tenser embraces Accelerated Evolution Syndrome, sprouting new and unexpected organs in his body. Removing those organs becomes a new kind of theater, one that earns a following, as well as the attention of the government."

It really doesn't get any more Cronenbergian than that!

Viggo Mortensen will re-team with Cronenberg after starring in A History of Violence, Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method. He'll be joined by Kristen Stewart, Léa Seydoux, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Don McKellar and Lihi Kornowski.

This is definitely a movie I'll never watch. But I do wonder, what compels people to make or watch these types of movies?

@bkmeijer1 - It's simple some people like horror movies since we like to be scared.
Cap1
Cap1 - 5/8/2022, 5:24 AM
@bkmeijer1 - because Cronenburg is a fantastic filmmaker and makes fantastic movies. If u have the stomach for it, the reasoning boils down to the same as with any other movie

@bkmeijer1 - probably a mix of adrenaline from the fear and also the fascination of the scifi and philosophical ideas. And some people are wierdly fascinated with gore. Peole probably watch this stuff for the same reason everyone tries to get a look at the horror traffic accidents as they pass by. Me, I don’t get it. Always hated body horror. Prefer ghost stuff for a scare.

@connorblaze - that makes sense. I'm not a fan of either (or looking at traffic accidents) though. Then again, I'm not even a fan of a lot of killing in movies either.

@dragon316 - Something being disturbing and twisted is apart of the horror genre besides who knows this film might be scary.

He's never made a bad movie. Younger horror fans who are unfamiliar should check out Rabid and The Brood
