When a movie's tagline is "surgery is the new sex," you should probably prepare yourself to witness some seriously messed up shit!

Neon  (via SFF Gazette) has now released a full, red band trailer for David Cronenberg's (Videodrome, The Fly, A History of Violence) Crimes of the Future, which is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later this month.

This latest glimpse into the legendary filmmaker's nightmarish world contains freaky body-horror footage, as Viggo Mortensen's performance artist puts his mutating organs on display. A recent report indicated that the mysterious sci-fi horror flick is likely to cause a significant amount of “chaos and controversy,” with the last 20 minutes, in particular, expected to cause "walk-outs, fainting and real panic attacks."

Looking at this trailer, we're not a bit surprised! Check it out for yourselves below along with a new poster.

The film is set "in a distant future where humans have evolved beyond their natural state and into a metamorphosis, altering their biological makeup. In this setting, a performance artist named Saul Tenser embraces Accelerated Evolution Syndrome, sprouting new and unexpected organs in his body. Removing those organs becomes a new kind of theater, one that earns a following, as well as the attention of the government."

It really doesn't get any more Cronenbergian than that!

Viggo Mortensen will re-team with Cronenberg after starring in A History of Violence, Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method. He'll be joined by Kristen Stewart, Léa Seydoux, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Don McKellar and Lihi Kornowski.
