We've not just lost a legendary filmmaker or one of the most important horror directors of all time, we've lost a great thinker, a true mythologist and a very important contemporary storyteller.
A Nightmare on Elm Street is still my favourite horror film of all time.
His is a legacy of post-modern and mythic horror movies that spanned the '80s, '90s and noughties and can be seen even today, in the teens.
I hope he saw It Follows, before he passed. That would have been right up his alley. Best film this year, so far.
