A few weeks ago we learned through MTV that the script for Ghostbusters 3 is currently being written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. Even with the script still under construction, rumor circulated that Harold Ramis would be in the director's chair this time around.

Today, Ivan Reitman himself confirmed that he will return to direct the next installment of the franchise. Critics have said that Reitman was a major contributing factor to the success the first two films had; mostly due to his cohesion with the cast. Though he hasn't disclosed any plot points that might be covered in the film, we do know that the movie will have four new Ghostbusters as the main cast and cameos from the the original stars.

MPP - This really is good news! As long as I see some witty dialogue, ridiculous gadgets and the return of the infamous ambulance, I'll be a happy man. But please keep Cena, Rogan and Goldberg away from this. They wouldn't know what dry humor was even if they looked up the definition.

Awesome. My daughter friggin' loves the original's. I was gonna dress her up like a Ghostbuster and make a video of her doing her Ghostbuster thing and send it to the powers-that-be to pressure them lol.

Anyone who hasn't played the Ghostbusters game for Xbox369 and PS3 really should grab it up. I would officially consider it the 3rd installment and this new one the 4th lol. All the original actors lent their voices to the game which had a well made script and awesome story. Also, you play the first GB rookie as the boys attempt to make for a franchise. It's just as good as any of the movies and twice as fun because you get to play it!

I watched the first 2 recently, first one is still one of my fave movies, second is good up to a point, that ending with the statue of Liberty is retarded.

Anyway, this is great news, bring it on!

by far the best news ive herd all year lol, im a happy ghosthead!

@Ror: dude i thought using the statue of liberity bit was wonderfully retarded. not sure id ever complain about a national monument being controlled by a jury-rigged nintendo controller

I have to agree, the game is fun as heck, even on the PS2! Obviously same game, not the same graphics :)

this is better news than the Spider-Man reboot. i was a Ghostbusters fan before Spidey but I don't know why the hate on Seth Rogen or Cera hell I would even like to see Jack Black in it. these guys are hilarious. I can totally see Paul Rudd as Venkman's counterpart. Cera as Egon's Seth as Ray Stanz's and Jack Black as Jack Black just a Ghostbuster. As far as the female Ghostbuster(s) it would have to be someone funny yet sexy and nerdy at the same time.

@ SuperSpiderMan5778

You don't understand why some of us wouldn't want to see Rogen and Cera in a Ghostbusters movie?

Rogen doesn't fit. His sense of humor, which is crude, gross, and childish doesn't fit the cleverness of Murray, Aykroyd, and Ramis (acting, not directing...).

As for Cera, he's just a talentless ----.

Sweet! I had the game for 360 and I thought it was a good continuation. Cera sucks, I think I'd like that kid that was in Zombieland w/ Murray: Jesse whats-his-name.

@Multi Great I was waiting for someone to post this article.

I've been waiting for this movie ever since the end of the 2nd one. Love the Ghostbusters. And like Boogie said a National Monument controlled with an old school Nintendo controller is just plain Bad Arse. Imagine if it was hooked up to a Wii remote know just swinging the torch around in sync with your hand.

Sorry, it didn't work for me. I get that its all fantasy anyway, but some thing just take you completely out of a movie. Add to that the ending that followed with the painting and its just bad..watch it again if you don't believe me. The first one was 1,000000000 times better.

Gweedo - 1/13/2010, 2:57 PM
Totally agree that the first one is the best ror. I like the idea of them not having work in the second one. And the dancing toaster. So pieces were good but all around 1st was the best.

I'm still not sure that the world really needs another Ghostbusters film, but knowing that the original director is on board does allay some of my worries. Let's see where they're going in terms of casting and story.

As for the previous films, I didn't care much for 2, but the original has been one of my favorite comedies since I saw it in the theater when it came out.

Finally some GOOD news.

Nothing will beat the first, but I say why not. I doubt it'll be worse than number 2, which ain't bad. Just keep the CGI minimal please...

AND Seth Rogen haters really need to watch and love Freaks and Geeks, especially before you say he doesn't know dry humor. Ghostbusters is one of his favorite films btw...maybe you didn't notice Harold Ramis in Knocked Up?

Jahozafat, It is indeed a BEAST of a game. While agree Rogan doesn't fit the bill, I disagree on your viewing of his humor, but often times its as clever as it is crass. Sure, he has as many simplistic dick jokes as anything else in his repertoire, but I view him as, "So this is Jason Mewes if he'd gone to college..." Which is funny enough for me, but I'm the type to find humor at funerals... there isn't too much that isn't funny to me.

Shaman, fair enough, but this sounds pretty solid to me ;) Have you played the game yet? You really need to make your way to the local game shop, you can probably pick it up pretty cheap by now and it is a must have for CBMer's.

Submarijuaner, Raimis was his father, yes I noticed and gave my ole' lady a nudge in the theater when we saw it. I just don't see him as a Ghostbuster. I see him more as Rick Morranis replacement to be honest.

TheCrisisKing, I wouldn't worry. They are too old to swing the actionable parts and they know it. I'm sure that while one or two may simply be just that, a cameo, at least one of them will be ever present in the movie as sort of a mentor type I'd reckon. So I wouldn't say 2 minutes and 6 lines is all each will have. I think either Venkman or Stantz are the most likely for the 'mentor' type while I'd expect Egon will probably have the smallest role.

I think Paul Rudd and Jason Schwartzman are shoe-ins. I DON'T want to see Will Ferrel, Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Steve Carrel, Raine Wilson, or any of that sort. Schwartzman would be great for the Venkman type.

I'm well aware of Harold Ramis and his connection to these subpar, so-called comedic actors: Rogen and Cera.

When I heard Ramis might direct the film, it saddened me because I knew he would then have influence over who gets casted. Obviously, he would choose "actors" he has worked with before... recently.

Paul Rudd, Rainn Wilson, even Ben Stiller could fit. But leave raspy and the 10 year physique out of it.

Shaman - 1/14/2010, 6:24 AM
TheMyth- Ha! No i was just kidding ;) I haven't played the game yet cause i'm waiting for it to go down to the greatest hits! It'll get there soon ;) I agree with your choices in actors AND i think they'll need a geeky girl in the team which should be none other than Amy Adams! She could turn out to be like mega sexy near the end with everyone's jaw dropping to the floor LOL :P Either Adams or Isla Fisher... maybe.

Have you seen my tribute to you yet? In features... wink wink ;)

2 is a classic example of a sequel never living up to the original.
