'Hannibal' Screenwriter To Pen FRIDAY THE 13th Reboot

Will next year's FRIDAY THE 13th reboot be any better than the lackluster 2009 interpretation? Well, it looks like it has taken a small step in the right direction...

A reboot of the iconic horror franchise is due next year and Hannibal screenwriter, Nick Antosca, has been hired to write a draft of the script to the reboot. This definitely gives hope to those expecting little quality from the upcoming reboot, as Hannibal is often considered to be the best series on network television and occasionally the best show on television in general. The reboot is expected by reliable source, The Hollywood Reporter, to be a found footage film and will explain why Jason Voorhees can't be killed. Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller are reprising their roles from the 2009 reboot as producers.

It is unknown how the film will be connected to the upcoming Friday the 13th TV series (if at all), which is rumoured to air on the CW, a network a majority of users on this site are well familiar with. Friday the 13th fans also ought to keep an eye on the Friday the 13th video game that is expected to be released this October. At this point, it is either a great time to be a fan of the franchise or a bad time depending on your perspective.

I'm slightly late, since this news broke on Thursday, but I haven't had time to write this until now.

I approve.

Hopefully, the producers won't [frick] this thing up.

Meh.

I enjoyed the 2009 reboot but, another one?

The 2009 movie wasn't a reboot per se.

There has been very few really good movies in this series. Anyone expecting an award winning movie is setting themselves up for disappointment. I enjoyed the last one...

you mean the reboot of the reboot?

@grif
Pretty much. The same producers and company from the 2009 reboot is doing another reboot since the sequel to the 2009 reboot went into development hell because the 2009 film was a critical failure. This reboot got a great writer, so I think that's a step in the right direction.

I disagree with the 2009 film not being a reboot. The way I differentiate between reboot and remake is that a reboot re-starts a series with a mostly original story (such as Dredd and Batman Begins). A remake re-starts a series with a re-creation/re-imagining/modernisation of the same story of the original (such as Nightmare On Elm Street 2010 and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003). While the 2009 film took a lot of inspiration from the first four Friday the 13th films, it had a mostly original storyline. In my opinion, it would've been a remake had they re-created/modernised the original (which would've involved having Mrs. Voorhees as the killer and saving Jason for the sequel).

Jason has already been to Space and Hell, so now send him back to feudal Japan like TMNT 3.

@Jollem

Agreed on the reboot and remake thing.

I sort of like the Freddy, Jason and Michael Myers remakes, but if you tell that to any of my film school mates I'll make you pay.

Yes, that is true, but it's an unfair comparison, though. The first "Halloween" is a masterpiece. The best slasher film of all time. It is also in my top 20 all time favorite films. :D
