Is John Travolta Attached To THE TOXIC AVENGER Remake?

This has to be the strangest casting rumor I've written up, but it is apparently on the level. Travolta is said to be up for an undisclosed role in the upcoming remake of the cult classic Troma horror-comedy..

According to industry tracking website It's On The Grid, John Travolta has been attached to the Steve Pink directed reboot of Llyod Kaufman's The Toxic Avenger. There is no word on which character he would play, but my guess is it will be yet another villain, and not Toxie himself - but hey, you never know.

Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink has been attached to the project since 2010, but we haven't heard much else about it until now. For those not in the know, The Toxic Avenger was a 1984 low budget flick from Troma Studios, about a mop-wielding radioactive superhero who deals out violent justice to a bunch of polluters in Jersey. The movie spawned 3 sequels, a kid's cartoon series. and various comic book spin-offs. This could be either a stroke of genius, or a stroke of what the [frick] were they thinking. Still, I hope we get to find out.

Haha I hope not, loved the original and the 2nd one, than they got a little to over the top, even for these movies. But both of the head crushing scenes in the first one are probably the most violent scenes ever in a movie. Not just for that time either.

He is gonna be the fat Mayor of Tromaville. Or the nazi police chief. :)

Jon Heder has to play Toxic Avenger in human form. Derek Mears as Toxic himself.

The cartoon was cool but i really hope they dont take inspiration from that. I rather see Toxic killing normal criminals.
Humor, horror and action and its gonna be awesome ride. It doesnt need big budget so this can be R-Rated easily.

I frick'n loved the show when I was a kid. "toxic crusaders, they're gross but they get the girls" hehehe. A remake probably isn't a good idea but depending on the trailer and further info, I'd watch it

Its prob going to end up being a will ferrel movie, I could see him playing melvin and toxie. It's his brand of comedy just won't be as violent as the original

Come on! Is nothing sacred? They're going to ruin it with cg elements.Sometimes a classic just has to stay in the past. That's what makes it a classic. What's next, a remake of "the birds"? Or "Doctor Strangelove"?

I was a big Toxie fan growing up. Loved all the Troma stuff. Making a star studded remake really defeats the point of the movie though.

bbarber2323, you think an entire article should be deleted because I accidentally typed that an obscure splatter flick from the '80s shat out 2 sequels instead of 3? Right, that'll happen!

For those who pointed out my mistake in a respectful way, thanks, I've changed it.

jessepostal - 8/21/2012, 2:43 PM
@ror, you forgot that it also spawned action figures and a video game, for that reason the whole article should be deleted:)

A Toxic Avenger remake? Impossible. There's no way todays special effects could surpass the ones from the original.

Meaning there is not even a chance Travolta is tied to our production. Get it,rookie?

lol, right. With your grammar I doubt they'd even let you work as a frackin window cleaner in a production studio. Cop on.
