Yesterday, it was revealed that
Shiloh Fernandez was cast in the lead role of the upcoming remake of The Evil Dead. Now,
Deadline reports that Jane Levy - who's starred in Paramount's
Fun Size, the ABC series
Suburgatory and Showtime's
Shameless - has been cast in the female lead in the Fede Alvarez-directed horror film. The role was previously held by
Mirror Mirror's Lily Collins, who recently dropped out due to 'date issues'.
Levy's character, Mia, is essentially the female equivalent of Ash (played by Bruce Campbell in the original films, and will not feature in this new version), described as
"one of five young people who head to the remote cabin where evil awaits. Recovering from a recent overdose, Mia is particularly vulnerable". Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert are producing the film.
The Evil Dead is set to hit theaters on April 12th, 2013.
