Japan: America has made GODZILLA Fat!

Japan: America has made GODZILLA Fat!

America...home to super-sized meals and super-sized people. But is it fattening up it's monsters too? Japanese fans of Godzilla seem to think so.

This year sees Godzilla's 60th birthday and whilst initial reactions to the monster-movie reboot have been positive, some Japanese fans aren't happy with the look of the monster.

After trailers and images went online in Japan, several fans of the Toho Studios creation have let their frustration be known on social media outlets.

"Whichever way you look at it, he's an American fatty" said one fan with another tweeting "He got fat in America on cola and pizza".

Other reactions included "He's couch potato Godzilla", "It's got no neck", "He Supersized" and "Marshmallow-Godzilla?".

At the ripe old age of 60 you might not think a little middle-aged spread is a terrible thing and it may seem a little funny coming from the country that gave the world sumo-wrestling, but the reaction wasn't all bad with one fan saying "It looks better than the last Hollywood Godzilla".

Well on that we should all be able to agree.

An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche, and David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston, Godzilla is directed by Gareth Edwards from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham, and its scheduled for release May 16, 2014.

The first American-made Zilla was too scrawny, and now this one's too fat. Thanks Obama.

To be fair, though, if Japan took one of our beloved characters (say Superman) and did they're own interpretation of it by tweaking it to their liking, we'd criticize the shit out of it. And rightly so.

Their dislike of us ruining their shit isn't unwarranted (Transformers, Dragonball Evolution, etc.)

I wish many sites would look at the 2ch and understand that just because those posts were made by Japanese user doesn't mean they are fans of Godzilla. It's like how some non-comicbook fans troll-nitpick on the whole Superman's massive crouch area upon his MOS suit when finally shown.

2ch is the general wasteland for trolls, and they generally seem to have forgotten that Toho made Godzilla pretty heavy weighed during the Heisei Series, especially in Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. And let's not forget GMK and the pot-belly. So Japan has made Godzilla "fat" several times before he landed in American hands. Besides, on www.pixiv.net I've seen lots of Japanese fans support this new Godzilla.

But it's like what Gareth Edwards had said, Everyone has their own opinion and idea as to what Godzilla should be like. And in this case, this is classic Godzilla, some Japanese folks may think he's a bit too large, but they can't say we got it wrong this time.
