It looks like Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem is on the cusp of joining fellow A-listers Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, and Russell Crowe in Universal Pictures' highly ambitious Monsters Movie Universe.

According to Variety, Bardem has entered talks with the studio to star as Frankenstein's monster. It's uncertain which film he'll make his frightening debut, but the report adds that like Crowe's Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, his character is expected to appear in another monster feature first before possibly receiving his own solo spin-off and/or appearing in Bride of Frankenstein, which is also currently in development. Coincidentally, Bardem was previously being courted for the Dr. Jekyll role in The Mummy before passing, which led to Crowe signing on.

The Mummy, the first installment in the Monsters Universe, should be wrapping in a few weeks. Alex Kurtzman is directing with Cruise headlining a stellar cast that includes Crowe, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, and Courtney B. Vance. The film is due out in theaters June 9, 2017.

Bardem can be seen next in The Last Face and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales alongside Depp.

So, what do you guys think of Bardem's casting? Sound off with your thoughts below!
