Coming off the success of
The Invisible Man, Universal has tapped James Wan (
Aquaman) to develop a mysterious new Monster movie. Wan won't direct the project, but he will produce via his Atomic Monster banner.
There's no title yet, but the story is said to focus on "a group of teens who discover that a neighbor is building a monster in his basement." Like Leigh Whannell's currently showing re-imagining, the film will "take its cues from Universal’s classic monster legacy and shine it through a modern prism"
This
sounds like it could be a modern retelling of
Frankenstein, but that remains to be seen. Either way, it's difficult to get too excited about this until we find out who'll be behind the camera.
Longtime
Supernatural scribe Robbie Thompson is writing the script.
THR's report also confirms that the studio has other Monster-related projects in the works from Dexter Fletcher, Paul Feig, and Elizabeth Banks, but provides no new details.
