SCREAM 6: Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown & Mason Gooding To Return For Upcoming Sequel

It looks like some familiar faces will be returning for a second round with Ghostface next year, as Deadline is reporting that Melissa Barrera (Sam Carpenter), Jenna Ortega (Tara Carpenter), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy Meeks-Martin), and Mason Gooding (Chad Meeks-Martin) have all signed on to reprise their roles in the upcoming sixth installment in the blockbuster Scream franchise.

The quartet will reunite with directors Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) as well as screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, who also penned the 2022 installment.

Scream (2022) is one of this year's biggest box office smashes, grossing over $140 million worldwide on an estimated $24 million production budget, and successfully reviving the classic horror franchise after a decade-long hiatus.

No word yet on whether surviving legacy cast members Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott) or Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) will be returning for the yet-to-be-titled Scream 6, but we wouldn't rule out the possibility just yet.

While plot details are under heavy lock-and-key, it looks like the next film will not take place in Woodsboro, as the four survivors will leave the small town behind to start a new chapter in their lives. Unfortunately for them, Ghostface won't be far behind.

Production is slated to begin early this summer, with the studio aiming for a March 31, 2023 release date.

I feel like not enough time has past to warrant another movie. Scream 5 benefited from how much the horror genre changed over the decades. Scream 4 arguably benefited the same way.

Only one Scream movie worth watching the original.

Speaking as a long time Scream fan this doesn't come as a shock, I'm more worried about where this will go.

Scream 5 was a risk that played out well but Sydney had next to nothing to do with it so Campbell who basically confirmed in the movie that she had a family and had moved on (until she returned) has no need to return. All her friends are dead too.

@TheDpool - I think they'll kill her husband Mark Kinkaid off in the opening, to give Sydney a personal reason to get involved.

It does seem that they are turning a new one out a little to quickly, but then again the best sequel Scream 2 came out less then a year after the first.

I loved the new one, but I do hope they through a curve ball with the formula. I always thought it would be cool if they paid homage to diffrent horror subgenres like a Scream film were Ghostface is killing people durring Holidays or a vacation-horror themed film. That's what's great about the Scream films they pay respect to horror films while also poking fun.

They should call this next one "Scream: The Sequel" and have the opening kill be Sidney Prescott killing a Ghostface copycat. Do a fakeout by having a phone call start the movie between Ghostface and Sidney, but have it revealed that SHE called HIM after he snuck into her family's home. He tries to run when she starts shooting at him, but he can't escape.

Could be a fun way to do something fresh.

Or "Cult of Ghostface". I've always been a fan of that idea.

Have Neve “killed” in the opening…and the ending is 2 killers (again one being Billy’s daughter) suddenly receive a phone call…from a third Ghostface not working with them. The movie flashes back to multiple breadcrumbs or clues left that the two killers have been at odds with each other because they’ve discovered their planned kills - although successful - have not gone to plan or been messed with.

The mystery third Ghostface is Sidney, who knew Billy’s daughter would crack and fooled them and faked her death. The cops are already on their way and she kills the killers, but succumbs to her wounds. So if Sid has to die, she doesn’t go out like another kill for shock value - and finally ends Billy’s reign of terror for good.

Otherwise they’re just dragging on.
