SCREAM 7: McKenna Grace Rumored To Be In Talks To Play Sidney's Eldest Daughter

The next Scream movie is scheduled to begin filming soon (possibly by the end of the year), and a new casting rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) is in talks to join the cast.

According to Daniel Richtman, Grace is up for the role of Sidney Prescott's (Neve Campbell) eldest daughter, Tatum.

We also have confirmation that Courteney Cox will reprise her role as Gale Weathers. The Friends alum had previously stated that she hadn't officially signed on, but has now revealed to US Magazine that Gale will be back after coming very close to death (every one of those 356 knife wounds clearly missed her vital organs) in the previous movie.

"I’m the longest running Scream queen, so I guess I can’t stop now,” said the actress.

Campbell and new director Kevin Williamson recently announced that the seventh movie - which is seemingly being referred to as Scream 7 (ditching the Roman numerals) for the time being - is set to hit theaters on Feb. 27, 2026.

A recent rumor may have revealed some story details. Though nothing major was disclosed, if you'd rather know as little as possible about the movie going in, here's your spoiler warning.

According to scooper MTTSH, Scream 7 "will have two main storylines, one about Sid and her friends from the neighborhood, and the second one about Sid's teen daughter Taylor (could be a codename) and her friends. Each of them will have to deal with Ghostface."

We're not sure if "Taylor" is actually Tatum, or Sid's other daughter.

If accurate, this wouldn't necessarily contradict previous rumors, which claimed that the story will revolve around Sidney, Gale, and some new characters defending Sid's family from some kind of Ghostface cult.

There have been conflicting reports about exactly how many masked maniacs will be targetting our returning heroes, but we have heard that there will be a "big time jump" following the events of the last movie, presumably to allow for Sidney's children to have grown to appropriate slasher movie age.

Previous reports have also claimed that this film will be at least partially set in a new town (ie, not Woodsboro), and is being developed as the first instalment in a new trilogy.

Patrick Dempsey is said to be in talks to return as Sidney's husband, Detective Mark Kincaid, but that's yet to be confirmed.

Following the departure of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, It also remains to be seen if the remaining members of the "Core Four", Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, will reprise their roles.

“Sidney Prescott is coming back!” Campbell posted on Instagram when her return was made official. “It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

Campbell's decision to return has stirred up some controversy due to Barrera's firing over social media posts that Spyglass deemed to be "anti-Semitic." A lot of fans felt that Campbell should have shown solidarity with her former co-star and declined the studio's offer.

Barrera was asked about the situation in a recent interview, and while she declined to comment on Campbell, she did reveal that she would consider returning to finish Sam Carpenter's story down the line.

“I’ve learned to never say never, but also a lot of things would have to happen for Sam to come back. For now, next page, next chapter, and then we’ll see what the future holds.”

“It’s definitely hard, because I was just in such a cloudy state of mind, but I was very fortunate,” the Abigail star told THR. “I had a lot of support from the people around me: my team and specifically my publicists — they just carried me.”

"Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter," reads Scream VI's synopsis. "In Scream VI, Melissa Barrera ("Sam Carpenter"), Jasmin Savoy Brown ("Mindy Meeks-Martin"), Mason Gooding ("Chad Meeks-Martin"), Jenna Ortega ("Tara Carpenter"), Hayden Panettiere ("Kirby Reed"), and Courtney Cox ("Gale Weathers") return to their roles in the franchise alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra and Samara Weaving."

@dragon316 - yeah, I’m just waiting for the scream fans to attack me here “This one’s different because the killer is going to be the son of the cousins uncle instead of the aunts son from the third movie.”

So the plot thickens....

Sydney snaps and kills her whole family and everyone in the neighborhood.

(I totally posted this just to mess with some of you who always jump my case everytime I mention Sydney is the killer :D Don't get in a twist)

@lazlodaytona - Sydney's daughter being the killer, would be a pretty safe bet.

Gale surviving just might be one of the biggest instances of plot armor in the history of cinema. They're pivoting out of desperation. The new ones aren't that great, I still think it should have ended with 3

@bobevanz -

Agreed. The other Screams had villains who really had nothign to do with Sydney in any way. They just had some influence from the original Woodsboro murders and of course Sydney's cousin from Scream 4 being the only direct link to her, but her reason was completely stupid.
The new sequels tried to execute this, "Daughter of Billy Loomis, and he is a force ghost" type deal, and I couldn't get on board with that honestly.

They really should have let it die with Roman in 3. AND, if they were going to bring it back, they should have said Stu survived that CRT landing on his head and was plotting his revenge against Sydney.
But you know....we get requels, so its possible now.

I dont get how they can keep rehashing a plot where copycats become effective serial killers. Maybe they should introduce more backstory and explain its an actual evil spirit possessing all of these people

@Matchesz - honestly think that would make these movie less ridiculous. Because right now it’s technically grounded in reality which makes all these copycat killers ridiculous. Humans are easily influenced but not Jay easily influenced that they will just start killing for fun lol. There been like 9 copycat killers. Shit that or jus stick with one killer for a couple films

@grif - should make it two and cast Kiernan Shipka as the other daughter

At this point they should actually lean into the fact that Ghostface has become the most copied serial killer in history and actually make it a plot point that these psychos are drawn to mimic Ghostface. It almost feels supernatural at this point that so many people around Sydney would become possessed with the desire to full blown murder people that maybe it should be revealed there is a cult that Sydney's mom and dad used to be in that cursed the Prescott bloodline or something when the parents left the cult. And when Ghostface starts coming after Sydney's children is when she stumbles upon evidence the curse.

@TheVandalore - That's a pretty neat idea. It reminds me of the producers cut of Halloween 6, which I thought was far better than the theatrical.

Just bring Stu Macher back and say that he survived the CRT landing on his head, and he has been orchestrating the events of the last few movies.

Just SAW 3D (Dr. Gordon) that shit.

Some of you reading this are gonna go:
"That's stupid! Where would he have been this whole time?"

Sydney dimes him out to the cops, he actually survives the CRT. Kills a coroner upon being examined, tries to go back to his parents, but they disown him for what he did but they decide to not turn him over to the police (cause that is still their "baby") and just tell him to leave, and he goes into seclusion.

He watches for years as the Ghostface legacy plays out, how Sydney changes her name and relocates, just keeping tabs on her, does some digging on Roman realizing that he and Billy were puppets.
At some point in the early years, he must have met up with his parents again as Ghostface and kills them cause he figures, "Well I already helped kill Tatum, so why not my parents?".

He has "Always had a thing for Sydney", but he blames Sydney for everything that transpired, cause had she just died, he wouldn't have a disfigured face from the CRT crashing on it, and he wouldn't have been disowned and further pushed into his craziness to kill his whole family. And had it not been for Maureen Prescott [frick]ing around with, Cotton Weary, Billy's Dad Loomis, none of the events of the original would have transpired.

So he helped masterfully orchestrate (With a little help from a notebook introduced in the new film entitled: Randy's Master Rulebook of Slasher Films) (Where'd he get it? Who the [frick] knows, cause sometimes these films don't exposition for exposition. My guess since I am writing thism would be since Randy's family is still around, Stu knew where to locate his family and went rummaging in Randy's belongings and found it) the killings and events of the last few Scream movies.

Man, you can't get ideas like this from ChatGPT.
