SUSPIRIA Includes A Post Credits Scene; Sequel May Be In The Cards

SUSPIRIA has been marketed as a horror film shrouded by mystery. From the abstract first teaser to the unsettling character posters, Luca Guadagnino's attempt of horror already looks unforgettable.

While originals fall flat at the box office, studios seem to be focused only on two things, properties, and awards season. Suspiria seems to be making an attempt on both of these, potentially creating a franchise while traveling the festival circuit. And what's the best way to imply the start of a franchise? An after credits scene.

Following the debut of Call Me By Your Name last year, director Luca Guadagnino has opted not to make another tearjerker, rather creating a horror epic that will scare the hell out of audiences. And if it works, will it be a franchise? Guadagnino sure hopes so. Speaking to Deadline he had this to say:

At the beginning, we were going to title the movie Suspiria: Part One but we didn’t want to give the impression of something that couldn’t stand alone. Truthfully, I’d be interested to explore the origin of [Tilda Swinton's character.] . . . So maybe. We'll see how the movie goes.

Later in the interview, the director does discuss the inclusion of an after credits scene, and while it may be spoiler heavy, it does provide hints for a followup. The important thing is, do not get out of your seats.

Will you be seeing Suspiria?

Wonder where a sequel could go.

Slightly off topic: the surreal sinister atmosphere of this film is what I wanted for The Hand in DD and Defenders. They should've been genuinely scary.

Every ritual/member/doctrine they had, as creepy and ominous as this...or as close as you can get

@BlackBeltJones - yeah, and if you look at the comics it could have been so easy to give the hand some creepy personality. My main issue with them was they had nothing to make them unique and that would have!

@noahthegrand - exactly. In the comis they are as MACABRE as hell. Obsessed with death and the occult.

A sort of sinister, surreal aesthetic would've at least made them unique.

@BlackBeltJones - The original film is part of a trilogy, each focused on one of the Three Monsters. Part 2, Inferno is great, but it was like 20 years before Part 3, Mother of Tears, was pretty bad. We might get a good Third Mother film out of this!

@DalekCraigWasson - I liked Inferno. Quit Mother of Tears 20 minutes in.

Inferno always felt like a loose sequel. Its been stated that its merely a thematic sequel to Suspiria. A trilogy almost seemed like an anthology.

@BlackBeltJones - Yeah, and Suspiria always felt standalone. Its witch, Helena Markos, has a name and a coven, while Inferno retcons her as "Mater Susipiorum" of the Three Mothers. However, the first trailer for the remake showed all the names for the Three Mothers, suggesting they are using the Inferno mythology too.

It's going to be the Suspiria Universe Cinematique (SUC), right?

I found the original to be unintentionally hilarious. This looks good however.
