TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: Leatherface Is In Danger Of Being Cancelled In Bloody New Trailer

The new trailer for Netflix's Texas Chainsaw Massacre "requel" is now online, and it finds Leatherface up to his old tricks when a new group of teenagers stick their noses where they don't belong.

As promised, Netflix has debuted a new trailer for the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre revival, giving us gruesome look at the return of everyone's favorite power-tool wielding maniac with a penchant for fashioning masks from his victims' faces.

Although this movie will serve as a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper's '70s classic, it seems to be treading over very similar ground, as a new group of teens make their way to a seemingly abandoned town only to discover that Leatherface is still very much alive and active. TCM 2022 also takes a page out of Halloween 2018's playbook by having sole survivor Sally Hardesty (this time played by Olwen Fouéré) return to seek revenge on her deranged tormentor decades later.

It looks like a bit of gory fun, although we're not sure about that "try anything and get cancelled, bro" scene at the end! Check out the new trailer below and let us know what you think.

“Melody (Sarah Yarkin), her teenage sister Lila (Elsie Fisher), and their friends Dante (Jacob Latimore) and Ruth (Nell Hudson), head to the remote town of Harlow, Texas to start an idealistic new business venture. But their dream soon turns into a waking nightmare when they accidentally disrupt the home of Leatherface, the deranged serial killer whose blood-soaked legacy continues to haunt the area’s residents — including Sally Hardesty (Olwen Fouéré), the sole survivor of his infamous 1973 massacre who’s hell-bent on seeking revenge.”

David Blue Garcia (Tejano) directs from a script by Chris Thomas Devlin. Fede Alvarez is on board as producer.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is set to hit Netflix on February 18.

Wow, this actually looks...good? Little surprised considering all of the sequels/reboots of this franchise have been horrendous and the making of this one was equally concerning. But it actually doesn't look half-bad. Maybe a little too reminiscent of Halloween (2018) but if it works, it works. Oh and please watch the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre on Amazon Prime everybody! Great horror film with an even greater development backstory!

@JesseCuster - The first two Texas Chainsaw movies are both fantastic

@noahthegrand - Love the original, the second one not-so-much. I understand what the second one was going for though, it just didn't work for me.

@JesseCuster - I absolutely LOVE “Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2” and everything it did to shape slashers moving forward, but it was definitely a big pill to swallow. Especially when the first film was nothing short of a masterpiece, and for many, the gold standard for indie horror.

@noahthegrand - second actually good huh? Always shot it down cuz the tomato score figured it sucked. First one is borderline genius tho

@McMurdo - it’s very different even though it’s the same director and he kind of plays up everything from the first movie to a heightened extent so it’s kind of a dark comedy. It’s good but it’s different and it’s the last one made by Tobe Hooper with his vision

Doesn’t look half bad for a TCM movie. Some good kills here and there. I think I’ll check it out, but that Halloween 2018 approach is kinda strange with this one.

Who woulda thought leatherface would have taken care of his health to continue chopping up people into his 70s

@r4dagast - someone leaked something about this film a few months ago, which could explain the age scenario…

@McMurdo - I mean, it's not like people in their 70s can't still be active. My grandma is in her 90s and she's still active, even doing the grocery shopping for her house (and it's a lot of it).

Cool tense looking scenes and some great cinematography but the plot itself looks kinda dumb. I hope this isn’t just like annoying stereotypes of gen z and they give depth to the characters beyond what seems to be a dated “safe spaces can’t protect you from Leatherface” joke.

Also, I always felt half of what made Texas Chainsaw interesting was the element of the Sawyer Family which Leatherface is only a piece of

@noahthegrand - They're definitely turning this into Halloween 2018 territory and making Leatherface this unstoppable force of killing and mass mania. Even though he's really just a more minor character and is only a dumb brute in the original.

LMAO, they really getting the Sally character from the original to get "revenge" on Leatherface 45 years later, thus erasing the sequels from existence? Hey Netflix Halloween wants their movie back.

No thanks on a number of levels, this is being made by Netflix, so you know all the check marks and quotas will be filled, this is a rip off of Halloween, and finally, it's being made by Netflix.

The whole killing the dumb kids on the bus with their phones out trying to "cancel" LF was funny though. If only.

@IronMan616 - I'm pretty sure Netflix only distributed the movie, it was made by Legendary Pictures though. And yeah, Netflix has some dumpster fires anyway, but they have a few gems still.

@IronMan616 -
"thus erasing the sequels from existence"

This movie isn't erasing the other sequels. Fede Alvarez (the writer) already said "When I say 'direct sequel' I wouldn't say it skips everything. When movies do that, sometimes it feels a bit disrespectful to all the other films. Some people love Texas Chainsaw 2. I love a lot of things about that movie — it's so wacky and of its time. But the rest is such a mess canon-wise. I think it's up to you to decide when and how the events of the other movies happen."

Sally wasn't in any of the other sequels anyway.

@Darkknight2149 - Ah, I didn't read that part. I may sound like I'm hating on this, but I'll still be watching it.

@JesseCuster - That's good to know. In that case, I'll be watching this now knowing Legendary made this movie.

I’m not big fan of leather face but see him kill those idiots with cellphones I’m in sad thing is about that scene that’s not fake people act like before calling police first I hate this younger generation with idiot cellphones thinking social media video will save them instead running away calling police first

Sorry, but this looks f'n terrible.

I say this as a huge TCM and Alvarez fan who's been fairly excited for this.

Looks fine, in terms of production design. But it's the same slop we've been fed for every legacy sequel in the last 5 years. And that "cancelled" line is already dated.
