The Addams Family are retuning to live-action for a new TV series, and none other than Tim Burton is overseeing the project.

This would mark Burton's (Batman, Sleepy Hollow, Beetlejuice) first foray into live-action television, and he's said to be in negotiations to executive produce and possibly direct all episodes of this new show. Smallville developers/executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are on board as head writers, and will also serve as showrunners.

MGM TV is financing the development of the series, and the package is said to have multiple buyers bidding for it. Netflix is the current favourite to land the project, however.

According to Deadline, this latest take on the creepy/kooky/spooky clan would be set in present times and be "from the perspective of Wednesday Addams and what the world would look like to her in 2020."

The Addams Family have previously been the focus of two live-action TV series; a pair of theatrical features starring Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston; and most recently an animated movie from MGM, which has a sequel on the way next year.

What do you guys make of this news? Burton has to be seen as the perfect choice to head-up a new Addams Family show, right?

Seems like a perfect match of characters and director. I really hope this is closer in quality to his earlier work. Also hope that he gets Bo Welch to do the production design for it.

Age-up the characters, and make Wednesday the lead character, with Christina Ricci reprising her role.

Interesting but kinda concerned. Whenever Burton releases something new it's not really that great.

Wait, wasn't this news not so long ago already? Or am I confusing things with another Addams Family related news

Never liked the Addams Family, but even I know Tim Burton would be absolutely perfect for this. It's literally what he's all about.

Get Brad Garrett as Lurch, and I just may watch it.

@KWilly - Since we're fancasting, I've always thought B.J. Novak had the same appearance/charisma as John Astin's Gomez

Re-watched the first one the other night.. it's actually very entertaining. A lot of the jokes are obvious, but the cast is so good.

It’s seems like a good fit for Burton, but really it’s all about the script. Alice in Wonderland seemed like a good fit too.
