The Thing: Prequel's Creature Design & Video Breakdown of the 1982 Version

Spoiler Warning! Detailed images of the design of the prequel's creatures. Also, John Carpenter's 1982 Classic left a lot of questions unanswered, but the biggest one may have been answered. Is Childs an alien?

Was Childs an alien? The second part of the Video really answers this question, but the first part is great as well. It's funny I've watched this film probably twenty times and I always ask that question once the end happens. Finally we have real solid reasons to backup the speculation that Keith David's character was in fact infected.

See if you agree with the assessment.

The prequel is directed by Matthijs van Heijningen jr. The cast includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Joel Edgerton, Dennis Storhøi, Trond Espen Seim, Jørgen Langhelle, Jonathan Walker, Eric Christian Olsen, Jo Adrian Haavind, Stig Henrik Hoff, Jan Gunnar Røise and Kristofer Hivju.

The Thing will be in theaters on 10/14/2011.

This is going to be pretty good, hopefully it will go to a sequel of the John Carpenter film.
@tea- I had a similar experience with my zipper after seeing that! Thanks again.

Damn, that [b]THING[/b] is ugly. :P

Yeah agreed Helagood and Spideyboy. Horror is so [frick]ing weak now. It's all torture porn, defanged vampires, and un-scary ghosts. Glad I grew up in a household of horror fanatics so I was exposed to the good stuff.

The J. Carpenter movie was shocking and scary, those FX wasn't cheap back then and they still look better than CGI. Horror movies aren't what they used to be. Paranormal Activity is a joke and Insidous had potential but let me down. Hopefully this genre will get a reboot and much deserved attention.

I think they nailed the look of how [frick]ing nuts they look when shifting and what not. Creepy as [frick], especially the hand/multiple legs ones.

@madmonkk, eh, I think you are wrong on all counts but whatev. CGI looks better, especially nowadays. Even though those effects back then are cheesy now (but weren't then), the movie is so creepy that you don't even think about the effects til after the movie lol. That's the difference. When the movie is solid, the practical or CGI effects don't really matter. You couldn't make a Transformers movie like they did back in the day or it'd look like old Godzilla films lol.

I think the Dead Space creators definitely were inspired by John Carpenter's The Thing in designing the Necromorphs.

@marxman12- i agree with you. everytime i play both dead space games they have always reminded me of the thing. kind of similar to the thing game that came out for ps2 way back ago.

so im still kind of confused. is it just a prequel? or is it a reboot prequel or what?

Just watched The Thing last Sat. on Netflix. I agree w/ a lot of you here that think the old stuff were a bit better that most of the CGI stuff.

So you think the wired dog thingy in the pen looks better than Transformers effects? The only old good movie that used pratical effects to perfection was Alien films. (The first 2 films).
