You better hold on tight, spider monkeys, because a new take on Twilight is coming to the small screen.

More than a decade after the final film in the franchise, Breaking Dawn Part II, hit theaters, the YA fantasy horror/romance tale is the latest property to get the TV reboot treatment.

We'd heard whispers that a new Twilight show might be in the works last year, and THR  (via FearHQ.com) has now confirmed that a series based on Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novels is officially in-development for Lionsgate Television.

The project is said to be in its infancy, and doesn't have a network/platform yet, but a writer has been enlisted. Sinead Daly, whose credits include Tell Me Lies, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Raised by Wolves, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and The Get Down, has been hired to pen the script

Meyer is expected to be involved in the television adaptation in some capacity. Wyck Godfrey and former Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erik Feig are both on board as executive producers.

The movies, which starred Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, were generally seen as faithful adaptations by the fanbase, and made serious bank at the box office despite mostly negative reviews.

Just in case you're unfamiliar with the story, it focuses on a high-schooler named Bella Swan who moves from Phoenix, Arizona to the town of Forks, Washington, where she falls in love with a 100-year-old vampire named Edward Cullen. Conflict emerges when Jacob Black, a member of a rival family of werewolves, develops feelings for Bella, and she's forced to choose between her friendship with Jacob and her romantic relationship with Edward.

@MrDandy - To paraphrase Jay Sherman:

“If the TV show used to be a movie, just don’t watch.”

Just when it appears there is going to be a re-emergence of vampire movies and shows, here comes Twilight to ruin it all over again.

Would it kill them to... Think of something new? Or... Look at the countless amount of literature over the years and decide what to adapt? Are they really that creatively bankrupt? Are they really that lazy? Judging by recent trends... I'd say yes.

Shocked it's taken this long. A Twilight reboot and series, has just been easy money sitting there. Underworld too. I'd watch the hell out of an Underworld series.

@99OPTIMISTPRIME - Underworld series from someone like HBO would be outstanding.
Just keep Paul WS Anderson away from it.

Please, for the love of god just write something NEW. I'm over this weak nostalgia era just because people getting paid millions are creatively bankrupt.

The first one was like a super hero comic. Teen guy with powers but a curse stopped him from having the life he wanted. It was a small budget indie movie. Guys hated it because they were jealous of Pattinson. The sequels were very goofy though.
